2017 IWAF/Carnival Polo Tournament: Capital Builders, 30 Horse Power up to flying start

Capital Builders and 30 Horse Power Polo teams both got off to a flying start on Friday, defeating Dogonyaro Farms and
Dattaku in the opening match of the 2017 Carnival Polo Tournament.

The carnival which started with a durbar on
Monday at the Abuja Guards Polo Club, would climax on Sunday.

The match played on Friday saw
Dogonyaro Farms and Capital Builders slugging it out in a pulsating encounter in the Guards Challenge for handicaps -3 to 0.

Dogonyaro Farms led by its patron Isa
Dogonyaro (-1) had the likes of Kabiru Bage (0), Ibrahim Paki (0) and Abdulhamid Auna (-1) in his arsenal.

Capital Builders boasted of players like Mohammed Jibril (-2), Gidado Abdullahi (-1), Nura Suleiman (+1) as well as the Tournament Manager, Aliyu Umar (-1).

Umar scored the opener and the only
goal of the first chukka to give Capital Builders an early lead, but Dogonyaro levelled scores with a superb goal at the start of the second chukka.

Bage added a second as Dogonyaro Farms took the lead, but Suleiman replied with a goal for Capital Builders to make it 2-2.

Paki however scored a brace for
Dogonyaro Farms in quick succession for a 4-2 lead, before Abdullahi pulled one goal back for Capital Builders to make it 4-3 at the of the second chukka.

Capital Builders came out smoking in
the third chukka as they looked to reduce the goal deficit, while their opponents were looking to defend their one goal lead.

However, Capital Builders came from
behind to take the lead for a second time as Suleiman scored a hat trick for his side and his fourth of the match to make it 6-4

It became a ding-dong affair once again
as Bage scored a brace and his third of the match for Dogonyaro Farms toward the end of the third chukka to make it 6-6.

Capital Builders, however, had the final say as Abdullahi beat the bell to score a last minute goal to give his side a 7-6 lead.
Abdullahi’s goal proved to be the winner as the fourth chukka was tightly contested with none of the sides able to score.

In the other match also played on Friday, 30 Horse Power defeated Dattaku 4 to 3 and a half in the battle for supremacy in the medium goal for handicaps +2 to +5. (NAN).
