House of Representatives member Hon. Odebunmi Olusegun Dokun, has appealed to the Federal Government to expedite action towards the completion of Ogbomosho -Oyo Federal road which has been abandoned for years now.
Hon. Dokun made this appeal wednesday in a motion he moved during the plenary of the House of Representatives.
Ogbomosho-Oyo Road is a major section of the Ilorin-Ibadan Federal Road connecting two States of Kwara and Oyo in the North-Central and South-West geopolitical zones respectively.
The lawmaker said: “several appeals have been made to the Federal Government to complete this section of the road but successive governments have feigned deaf ears by refusing to honour promises made by them to complete work on the Road there by leaving it to become a death trap to motorist.
“Because of the deplorable condition of the road, several incidences of accidents are recorded on a daily basis resulting into hundreds of people losing their lives and hundred others sustaining injuries. Just recently, accidents involving a trailers crushed commuter vehicles on two different occasion within seven days killing ten persons among whom are three school Principals. One of the Principals was due for retirement that faithful day he was killed pathetically on this road.” Hon. Dokun explained.
The parliamentarian said if this road is revisited and the abandoned work completed, it will go a long way to reduce the unnecessary rate of casualties been recorded everyday.
He therefore called on the House to mandate its committee on works to liaise with the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing to ensure speedy completion of the road through adequate funding in the 2018 Budget and report within four weeks for further legislative action.
The motion was unanimously adopted by the House.
