The issue that has still lingered like a whirl fire has immensely affected the growth and development of football in the country but with the steps taken by the minister, the issue may be the thing of the past with minister reconciliation steps.
Speaking during the official Inauguration of Elders Stakeholders Reconciliation Committee on Monday in Abuja Dalung revealed that
“The management crisis that has for some time now engulfed the Nigeria Football Federation is of great concern to the Federal Government, a concern shared by eminent stakeholders in the country. The concern stems from the fact that the lingering crisis has impeded the desired growth and development of football in 5 the country.
“Apart from being a national passion, football, as we all know, is one of the strongest unifying tools of this country. Unless we each put aside our parochial interests and differences and work towards the common goal of combating the evil plaguing Nigerian football, it will continue its free fall. This, any responsible government will not allow, hence the need for this Committee of distinguished elders.
‘The inauguration of this committee today marks yet another milestone in our collective efforts to rescue Nigerian Football and set it on a path of sustainable growth.
“Let’s not delude ourselves; the task of this Committee is enormous and fraught with many insidious pitfalls. In carrying out this assignment, enemies of football will accuse you of taking sides; some may even accuse you of being the cause of the conflicts and many such things, but I have no doubt in my mind that as Elders, you will rise above all these and discharge your responsibility dispassionately, driven only by the desire to see that we rescue football from the clutches of its enemies and restore its lost glory.
“I count on Your Integrity, dedication; knowledge and experience ’30 deliver these expectations. I, therefore, charge the Committee to approach the assignment with diligence, courage and great Patriotism.”
Speaking further, the minister said the Terms of Reference of the Committee is as follow: “Identify causes of the current leadership crisis in the Nigeria Football Federation; Evaluate the dimensions of the leadership crisis and the contribution of actors to the issue; Invite actors in the leadership crisis namely the Chris Giwa led and Amaju Pinnick led Boards to the reconciliation table with a view to addressing their concerns towards achieving a sustainable and win-win solution to the crisis.
“Also, the committee will make recommendations that would ensure smooth leadership succession without adversely affecting the development and management of football in Nigerian.”
