Sexual Harassment: Edo MAJA Party Candidate Cry Out
Benin City Edo female Candidate seeking to represent Oredo West Constituency at the Edo State House of Assembly Comrade Charity Osifo Idahosa cried out over what she described as sexual harassment from the male counterpart.
She told newsmen that her experience to get support towards achieving her Political ambition has always been subjected sexual advances from the opposite sex which she pointed out remain a negative trend against women in politics.
Idahosa, however, noted that she remains undaunted in her desire to contest the February state house of assembly seat despite the obvious frustration and lack of support.
Idahosa is contesting under the platform of the Mass Action Joint Alliance, (MAJA), said despite with the passing of the not too young to run bill female candidates need some kind of protection and support to partake in political activities without harassment.
The young candidate while speaking on her experience on the political tuff stated: “Well it has been mixed feelings. I came into politics with the desire to make a change and contribute my quota to the development of Oredo West constituency. It will be shocking to note that people I had looked up for support often asked for sexual gratification before giving their support and for me it absurd and unacceptable. The MAJA party candidate who declined to mention names added:
“I know this may sound funny but it is real. They are a lot of women out there that cannot speak out on some of their unpleasant encounter and experiences. I think it is time for Nigeria women to rise against this trend. We need to be protected and supported.”
