128 Players For BSL Abuja Squash Open In Abuja

No fewer than 128 players are set to slug it out for honors in the BSL Abuja Squash.
President, of Nigeria Squash Federation (NSF) Boye Oyerinde, told newsmen that the week-long competition would see a pool of 64 players in both the female and male categories compete for mouth-watering prizes.
Reports have it that the prestigious squash competition is expected to serve off on Nov. 27 and end on Dec. 2 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Package B, Abuja.
Oyerinde said that a N1 million prize purse has been earmarked for the competition with an equal prize pool of N500,000 for each category.
He said there would also be a N250,000 prize money for the runners-up, while the semi-finalists will smile home with N100,000 each.
He added that there was a provision for other cash prizes for the quarterfinalists, Round of 16 as well as Round of 32 players.
“The Abuja Squash Open 2023 which is being hosted by BSL Sports will bring together top-tier players from across the region.
“The stakes are high, making the competition fierce and thrilling for participants and spectators alike.
“This prestigious event, powered by Child Care and Wellness Clinics, promises an exhilarating week of intense competition, camaraderie, and sportsmanship,” he said.
He noted that in a significant boost to the squash community, the tournament had garnered support not just from the federation alone but from other esteemed partners including the PSA World Tour, and the Abuja Squash Club.
Pascal Ezeh, Creative Director of BSL said registration for the event was open to all categories of players who wish to showcase their talent on the squash court.
He said that there would also be other side attractions, including a raffle draw which will see a lucky winner smile home with a brand new car as well as rackets, squash balls, and many more.

Team Nigeria Jets to Cairo for 11th World Para Powerlifting Championships

Excitement is high as Team Nigeria’s para powerlifting contingent departed Nigeria on Tuesday, October 7, for the 11th World Para Powerlifting Championships set to take place in Cairo, Egypt, from October 9 to 18, 2025.
The milestone event marks the first-ever World Championships to be hosted on African soil, symbolizing a new era for the sport on the continent.
The first batch of Team Nigeria athletes left the country on Tuesday amid cheers and well-wishes from officials, fans, and supporters.
The second batch of the contingent is scheduled to depart tomorrow, October 8, from Lagos, completing the full team that will represent the nation at this landmark competition.
Speaking ahead of the departure, officials expressed confidence in the team’s readiness and determination to uphold Nigeria’s longstanding reputation as a force to be reckoned with, in global para powerlifting.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) reaffirmed its full support for the athletes, emphasizing the government’s commitment to promoting inclusivity and excellence in sports.
