2022 CAPTAIN’S CUP: SENATOR ANOSIKE RATES EVENT HIGH

The week long 2022 IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja Captain’s Cup will come to a close on Saturday as winners in both Professional competition and Amateur championship will receive their Cash and trophies
The event which started on Tuesday with Caddies event, Professional competition, Veterans and Super Veterans will climax with over 550 Amateur Golfers battle for various honours.
The Outgoing Club Captain, Distinguished Senator Emmanuel Anosike while assessing the 4-day event, was excited that the Championships have lived up to its expectations.
” With all indications, you can see that all our projections are what we are getting. From the onset, our target is to play about 500 golfers. We have about 36 professionals playing here, about 125 guest players and 350 members of the club, we’ve been playing over 4 days now, on Saturday the big boys will play from the handicapp 1-12 in conjunction with the sponsors and guests.
” We will cap it up with one of the exciting, play hole-in-one in hole 2 where Kia motors has given us a Car that anybody that played hole-in-one takes the Car, also hole 16 is where Hallmark insurance pledged to give anyone that played hole-in-one, 10 million naira worth of insurance. So a lot of excitement as there are so many things to win”, he said.
Senator Anosike said the organising planning committee under the former Attorney-General of the federation and Minister of Justice, Bayo Ojo, SAN, planned to do what has never been done in the history of the prestigious Club which is invited golfers, the world over, to the event without playing qualifiers.
” Yesterday players from Cotonou arrived, we have players from Uganda, Ghana, Rwanda, Kenya etc so the environment is exciting”, the outgoing Club captain boasted.
Saturday’s official tee-off is expected to be performed by the Honourable Minister, Youth and Sports Development, Chief Sunday Dare as well as other distinguished invited guests.
Senator Anosike believed that he has created a good platform for the incoming captain by using his position as a politician to attract good things to the club.

Cricket: Nigeria To Host ICC U19 Men’s World Cup Qualifier

Nigeria Cricket Federation , NCF, says it is ready to host five other nations for the International Cricket Council ,ICC, Under 19 Men’s World Cup African Qualifier.
The tournament is billed for Lagos, with the matches to be held at the cricket ovals in Tafawa Balewa Square ,TBS, and the University of Lagos ,UniLag, from March 26 to April 6.
Uyi Akpata, President of the Federation, said in a statement on Sunday, that the tournament is about celebrating the growth of the game on the continent.
“Nigeria is thrilled to welcome these talented young cricketers and their supporters to Lagos.
“Our nation is known for its warm hospitality and fascinating cricketing potential, and we are committed to making this qualifier a memorable experience for all.
“This tournament is not just about competition; it’s about celebrating the growth of cricket in Africa and inspiring the next generation of players”, Akpata noted.
However, Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, Tanzania and Sierra Leone will join Nigeria to jostle for the continent’s sole ticket to the 2026 ICC Under 19 Men’s World Cup.
Meanwhile, Nigeria will be hoping to secure the ticket, having achieved same feat in 2019 and competing at the World Cup in South Africa 2020
