2023 Presidential Elections: SDP Not In Alliance With Any Parties- Aiyenigba

The National Publicity Secretary, Social Democratic Party SDP Amb. Rufus Aivenigba has debunked the rumour of forming an alliance or negotiating with any political party for the forthcoming presidential election, saying Barrister Adewole Adebayo remains the party candidate.

It was earlier reported that a member of the APC Mr Alfa Muhammed said that the ruling party has an alliance with SDP, to boost the chances of its flagbearer, Bola Tinubu.

Speaking on Thursday at the Press briefing in Abuja, Aiyenigba denied any deal with the APC or any other political party described the statement as fabricator of falsehood.

According to him, the attention of the chip of the Social Democratic Party SDP has been called to some dishonest and illegitimate publications by one Mr. Alfa Mohammed who had claimed he was speaking on behalf of our great Party the Social Democratic Party, and purportedly with respect to the Party’s Presidential Candidate and collaboration with other political Parties. But SDP disowns Mr Mohammed and insists that “he is on his own.”

“As a matter of fact, Mr. Alfa Mohammed is a complete persona non-grata in the Social Democratic Party. He is a compulsive impostor and fabricator of falsehood.

“The Party had in the past put a disclaimer on this same Mr. Alfa Mohammed, a former member of the Social Democratic Party when it was first discovered that he was fond of concocting spurious, sometimes fraudulent, and unfounded reports and stories.

“It was this habitual recklessness and outright disregard for decorum by Mr. Alfa Mohammed that led to his being relieved of his position as Deputy Publicity Secretary of the Party in November 2018 before he was suspended from the Party in March 2019 by the National Working Committee (NWC) and later expelled by the National Executive Committee (NEC) in August 2019. His expulsion was upheld by the subsequent National Convention of the Party in June 2022.

“It is true to his character for Mr Mohammed who has not been part of any activities of the Social Democratic Party in four years, that is, since early 2019 but has intermittently pushed fabricated lies to mislead and defraud the public with the malicious intents to tarnish the reputation of targeted individuals in the Social Democratic Party or in other Party under the irrational guise that he is fabricating a “faction”.

He added that: “We note that no political party can curtail disciplined or expelled ex-members from grumbling or groaning to get noticed but faction-fabricators like Alfa Mohammed need to be called to order when their shamelessness start to impinge on the sensibilities of the public.

“We are not interested in what has motivated Mr. Mohammed for his recklessness or how this has become his character hallmark, therefore, we formally reported his serial misinformation and misrepresentation to the Inspector General of Police in August 2022 for the Apex Law Enforcer to call him to order for “Impersonation, False Pretenses and Conduct Likely to Cause Breach of Peace and Mr. Mohammed is, indeed, under watch and investigation for criminal impersonation.”

UCMPOO Names LG Coordinators to Drive Grassroots Mobilization for Otu, Odey

The United Cross River Movement for Prince Otu and Peter Odey (UCMPOO) has announced the appointment of coordinators across local government areas and state constituencies in Cross River State as part of efforts to strengthen its grassroots structure.

In a statement issued by the UCMPOO Secretary-General, Victor Omaga Odoh, the movement said the appointments were aimed at expanding its grassroots presence and enhancing mobilisation ahead of the 2027 re-election bid of Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, and his deputy, Hon. Peter Odey.

According to the statement, the newly appointed coordinators are expected to coordinate the movement’s activities within their respective local government areas and constituencies, while strengthening engagement with communities and residents.

The appointed coordinators include Pastor Steve Atukamre for Obanliku; Hon. Augustine Ishong for Obudu; Hon. Chris Ogaidang for Bekwarra; Hon. Ega Mgbantul for Ogoja; Mr Mike Okwori for Yala I; and Hon. Godwin Igelle for Yala II.

Others are Elemi Eka for Abi; Hon. Charley Ikpi for Yakurr I; Butum Ubi Ofum for Yakurr II; Barr. Monday Akpere for Obubra I; Victor Okim Enang for Obubra II; Eric Ndifon for Etung I; Pastor Erune Erune for Etung II; Ogbuoba Margaret Okim for Ikom I; and Egbede Joshua for Ikom II.

The list further includes Hon. Harris Esor for Boki I; Mr James Dibang for Boki II; Hon. Mbora Mbora for Calabar Municipality; Comrade Inyang Udowong for Odukpani; Asuquo Adim for Bakassi; Michael Edem Bassey for Akpabuyo; Stephen Okon Effiong for Akamkpa I; Austine Ekuri for Akamkpa II; Chief Isaka Ekpenyong for Biase; Mike Archibong for Calabar South I; and Charles Etim for Calabar South II.

UCMPOO congratulated the newly appointed coordinators and urged them to discharge their responsibilities with dedication, commitment and a strong sense of service.

The movement said the appointments formed part of its broader efforts to establish an effective local government structure, deepen community engagement and coordinate grassroots activities across Cross River State.

It also called on the coordinators to work closely with stakeholders and communities within their respective areas to strengthen the movement’s organisational structure and outreach ahead of the 2027 political season.
