Minister of Sports, FCT Minister of state, NFF GS, Others Bag FCT SWAN Awards.

The minister of youth and sports development, Chief Sunday Dare, Minister of State for FCT Dr. Ramatu Tijani Aliyu, NFF’s General Secretary, Sanusi Mohammed were among persons honored by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) FCT chapter at their 2021 award ceremony held in Abuja on Thursday.

Dare was given the highest SWAN award(Diamond) award for his eminent contribution to the development of sports in Nigeria.

Dr. Ramatu, Dr. Sanusi, Engr Noah Dallaji, Adam Mouktar, Chief Chris Isiguzo, Mailafa Yakubu, all bagged the SWAN Gold Award.

After a healthy competition in football and table tennis games during the week-long events, Nigeria Info FM and Wazobia FM reign supreme respectively.

The award was preceded by a SWAN Symposium which was attended by Chairman of the League Management Company, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and Sports Philanthropist, Engineer Noah Dallaji on Wednesday evening.

Six categories of awards were handed out meritoriously, to sports journalists who are distinguished themselves through the year 2021

The delectable Ebi Iyomon of ITV won Best Presenter (TV), as Udeme George of Wee FM went home as Best Presenter- (Radio)

Veteran journalist, David Ngobua of Daily Trust emerged winner for Best Sports Journalist (Print), Martin Odiete of Ajasa Sports was named Best Online Journalist.

NTA Sports was adjudged Best TV Show, while Football Frenzy of Nigeria Info FM was crowned Best Radio Show.

The event which took place at the VIP Lounge of the Moshood Abiola Stadium saw gymnast, Munachi Obiefuna win SWAN FCT Athlete of the year, while Verissimo Rose won SWAN FCT Coach of the year.

FOSLA Academy was named SWAN FCT Team of the year while Hannah Enekole emerged as the Referee of the year.

Former Super Eagles team coordinator, Emmanuel Attah was decorated with the SWAN special recognition award for support to SWAN and football.

Meanwhile, a Posthumous award was bestowed upon late Jide Fashikun, who was known to be a fearless sports journalist before his demise.

FCT SWAN chairman, Bunmi Haruna, promised that the association would continue to propagate true journalism and celebrate sports excellence at every opportunity.

NFF President Cup Football Tournament Kicks Off in Kaduna with Exciting Opening Ceremony

The NFF President Cup Football Tournament for Nigeria National League (NNL) clubs began in style on November 12, 2024, marking a key step in promoting football development in Kaduna State and across the league. The tournament, held at the historic Ahmadu Bello Stadium, will run until November 20 and promises fans thrilling preseason action and intense competition among participating teams.

The opening ceremony was a highlight, with Kaduna State’s Commissioner of Sports Development, Professor Benjamin Kumai Gugong, officially launching the event by kicking off the first ball—a symbolic gesture underscoring the state’s commitment to nurturing sports and supporting local football talent. Professor Gugong remained for the inaugural match, where two local teams, Kada Warriors FC and Kawo FA, delivered an exciting performance. In a closely fought game, Kawo FA emerged victorious with a 1-0 win over Kada Warriors FC.

Chairman of the tournament, Hon. Magaji Alhasan, welcomed the teams and officials in his opening remarks, applauding Kaduna’s warm hospitality. He assured all participants that fair and transparent officiating would be a top priority, with oversight directly under his supervision. Alhasan also expressed his hopes for the NFF President Cup to become an annual tradition, providing a vital platform for NNL clubs to prepare for each season.

With four matches scheduled daily from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the tournament promises a nonstop display of football talent that will captivate fans and further enhance Kaduna State’s reputation as a center for sports.

The tournament serves as an essential preseason platform, allowing clubs to refine their skills and gear up for the forthcoming National League season.
