FG Makes a U-turn, Re-list Paralympic Sports to 2022 NSF

Federal Government has Relist Paralympic Sports to the forthcoming 2022 National Sports Festival NSF slated for Asaba Delta state, South-South Nigeria.

It will be recalled that, National Council on Sports during the emergency meeting last week removed Para Sports from the 21st NSF, the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.

In a press Release on Monday in Abuja by the Director, Press & Public Relations of the Ministry of Sports Mohammed Manga revealed that after many consultation with Stakeholders in Sports, the NCS relists the following Para Sports to the National Sports Festival in Delta State: Para Athletics, Para Table Tennis, Para Powerlifting and Deaf Sports of (Athletics aubnd Table Tennis).

According to the statement, the Ministry wishes to state that their events will be limited to where Nigeria has competitive advantages.

“This decision was taken in the overall interest of Sports Development in Nigeria, as the National Sports Festival has become the Flagship Games for the discovery, grooming and empowerment of our youth athletes.

“The Ministry condemns the behaviour of some misguided athletes who engaged in unwarranted acts of protests and blackmail without recourse to due process.

“These actions which led to the disturbance of public peace and the good image of Sportsmen and women, especially with the recent public acceptance of the superlative performance of Team Nigeria at the 2022 Commonwealth Games is a breach of our Sports Ethical Code.

“The Ministry wishes to state further that it will apply the rules in dealing with such acts in due course. Athletes must learn to follow the due process laid down for resolving issues.

“The facts about this administration’s commitment to the upliftment of the Para Athletes and Parasports are in the public domain, well documented.

“Para Athletes are therefore, advised to henceforth exhaust the channels of communication and processes laid down for airing grievances, rather than resort to public disturbance.”

As the curtain falls on the second edition of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Democracy Day U-18 Basketball Tournament, all eyes will be on the grand finale today Wednesday in Abuja where Plateau State will take on the high-flying M2 Academy in what promises to be an electrifying encounter.

The 5days tournament organized to commemorate Nigeria’s Democracy Day and promote youth engagement through sports, has witnessed thrilling displays of talent and teamwork from budding basketball stars across the country.

Both Plateau and M2 Academy have shown resilience, skill, and determination throughout the competition, earning their spots in the final through hard-fought victories.

M2 Academy, known for their fast-paced and tactical style, will be hoping to outclass a physically dominant Plateau side that has wowed fans with their aggressive play and defensive discipline.

Trophies, medals, and individual awards will be presented at the end of today’s final to recognize outstanding performers, including Most Valuable Player, Best Defender, and Top Scorer.

As Plateau and M2 Academy square off at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, fans can expect an action-packed finale that underscores the rising potential of youth basketball in Nigeria.
