Striving sports Minister amid criticism: Facts About 2020 Edo NSF FG’s financial support

Published

Without any iota of doubt, efforts of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development under the able leadership of Chief Sunday to ensure National Sports Festival NSF hold in  EDO 2020 can’t be quantified despite the criticism.

Below are all Nigerians need to know about Minister’s effort to ensure the event hold after 4 postponements

1. Ministry did the needful got a letter for assistance treated it and wrote the presidency with justification for special funding assistance.

2. Minister and Permanent Secretary followed up and kept Edo up to date.

3. Nigerians need to know that getting a special funding assistance, there is a process.

4. Also, the MYSD and FG do not owe Edo any money. The MOU is very clear. MOU. 70/30. On responsibilities. A plea for help and assistance cannot

Translate to a debt.

5. The Minister cannot run faster than the President or stampede the process. He kept appealing for understanding.

Ministers’ ultimate desire was to make sure the festival holds.

6. Unfailingly. Many wanted to scuttle it but minister made the right arguments and support for financial assistance.

7. The option of moving it out of Edo was there. An option the Ministry had resorted to. When Cross River insisted on a 500m FG support. The minister never reached for it.

8. The Covid 19 delays. The timing. The sheet Logistics all made Edo the best option.

9. Edo’s threat was an ambush of the FG.  In bad taste. Minister cannot spend money that is not appropriated for a specific purpose.

The financial support Edo wanted was nowhere in the budget. Only presidential special funds could be made available for it.

Not even the Minister of Finance can just yank off such financial support without due process and necessary approvals. FG rules are clear.

I am at a loss what Edo wanted the Minister to do. Force the FG to find the money by all means ? Take  money from his budget and give Edo which will be impossible?

The letters the documents were part of due process and that process was ongoing before Edo felt they could achieve getting the funds Without the Minister.

In the fist place. If the Minister did not convey Edo’s request to Mr. President Edo would never have being in line for any support. It’s a support. A privilege. Not a right.
