Editor
The 2014 Commonwealth Gold Medalist, Jamilu Mohammed, has landed the Anyanacho Olympic Training Camp, to assist the preparations of Tokyo 2020 bound Elizabeth Anyanacho in her preparations for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
In the final weeks to the Tokyo Olympics, the Chika Chukwumerije led-technical crew has resorted to the local solution of inviting established national champions and coaching personnel to bolster the preparations of Elizabeth, who is the first Nigerian female in 16 years to qualify for the Olympics in Taekwondo.
Jamilu, who was also a Gold Medalist at the 2013 All African Games and Silver Medalist at the 2017 edition, landed from Kano state alongside Edo 2021 Silver Medalist Mohammed Lawan who will be an added sparring partner for Elizabeth during the five-day training camp.
Also expected to arrive later today to support the Olympic training camp are current African Champion, Chinazum Nwosu and Alhaji Sani Lawal, who was a three-time University Champion and two-time national champion.
Three weeks ago, African Champion, Uzoamaka Otuadinma, lead the quintet of African bronze medalist Juliet Dennis and national champions Helen Okoko, Judith Usifoh, Peter Itiku, and Ifeoluwa Ajayi for a special Olympic fight camp.
The arrival of the current set of veteran champions will be an added boost to the Anyanacho camp ahead of the African Taekwondo Championships, set to hold on 5th and 6th June 2021 in Dakar, Senegal.
The World Taekwondo G-4 ranked continental tourney will see Elizabeth Anyanacho battle in the female -67kg category with the continent’s other representatives at the Tokyo Olympics, former world champion Ruth Gbagbi of Cote D’Ivoire and current African champion, Hedaya Malak of Egypt, both of whom won bronze medals at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
