Kangiwa Harps On Importance Of Training At Bristol Palace Hotel Award

The Director General of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), Alhaji Nura Sani Kangiwa has once again reiterated continuous professional training and upgrade as one of the most important conditions and elements of running hospitality outfit for quality service delivery, business sustainability, and for achieving maximum profits.

Kangiwa who made the statement through Ahmed Mohammed Sule, Head of Media and Public Relations Unit of the Institute further noted that no matter the size and beauty of a hospitality structure, without better quality service delivery from its staff, the outfit will not last in business as customers will not make repeat visit or encourage others to come due to its poor services, stressing that training is key for all hospitality industry operators to stay in business and continue to prosper in the most sustainable manner.

He was speaking at the Certificate Award Ceremony of staff of Bristol Palace Hotel trained by the Bagauda-Kano Campus of the Institute as well as the conferment of the Fellowship of the Institute on the Chairman of the hotel, Distinguished Senator Mohammed Ibrahim Ida for his enormous contributions to hospitality education in the country as a whole, and in particular, his commitment to the professional training and upgrade of staff of the hotel.

The Director General noted that NIHOTOUR has delivered to staff of Bristol Palace Hotel well packaged training modules of international standards by its highly competent Instructors and Trainers, and has no doubt that the trainees benefitted a lot from the exercise with strong indications that the outcome of the training will be highly beneficial as it is expected of the trainees to put in their very best from the knowledge and skills they acquired to make Bristol Palace Hotel a unique hospitality outfit not only in Nigeria but globally.

Speaking at the occasion, the General Manager of Bristol Palace Hotel, Mr. Paul… noted with excitement the general outlook of the trained staff whom he said are better prepared more than ever before to put in their very best in offering quality services to guests of the hotel.

Mr. Paul who received the certificate of Fellowship of the Institute on behalf of the Chairman, Senator Ida, expressed his happiness to NIHOTOUR for offering staff of the hotel with such worthy hospitality operational knowledge and skills that now placed the hotel in the best position to offer services of international standards and in line with global best practices, saying the Chairman has accepted the Fellowship of the Institute conferred on him with all sense of humility and gratitude which will spur him to do more in raising the bar of Travel-Tourism and Hospitality education in the country.

Over 45 staff of the hotel who went through the rigors of training in various categories of hotel management were in attendance to receive their certificates as well as a representation from the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) who stated their commitment in ensuring human capacity development of personnel in all facets of industrial and entrepreneurial skills and  in collaboration with NIHOTOUR in the areas of Tourism and Hospitality.

FG Backs MyCityApp Launch of 100-Day Tourism Calendar to Drive $100bn Economic Growth

The Federal Government has thrown its weight behind the launch of MyCityApp, a Nigerian city discovery and tourism platform designed to aggregate festivals, concerts, cultural events and lifestyle experiences into a single digital calendar.

The platform, which flags off the 100-Day Tourism Calendar, was unveiled on Monday at the Ember2Remember National Stakeholders’ Conference in Victoria Island, Lagos, with the initiative targeting Nigeria’s estimated $100 billion tourism and creative economy opportunity.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the Media and Publicity Adviser to the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Nneka Ikem Anibeze, the ministry said the conference was aimed at mobilising public and private stakeholders to transform the September-to-December festive period into jobs, investment and economic growth.

Speaking at the unveiling, the Minister, Hannatu Musa Musawa, said millions of visitors travel across Nigeria every year to celebrate, reconnect and experience the country’s diverse culture, stressing that the festive season could be deliberately organised and monetised to strengthen tourism’s contribution to the economy.

“This initiative is about moving beyond the traditional concept of a festive season. It is about deliberately organising, packaging, promoting, and monetising one of the most economically active periods in our national calendar,” Musawa said.

She noted that every visitor generates economic activity across several sectors, including aviation, transportation, hospitality, restaurants, entertainment, retail, technology, artisans and local communities.

The Minister commended MyCityApp Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Ifeoma Chukwu, for her vision and commitment to the initiative.

She urged state governments, event organisers, tourism operators, hospitality businesses and other stakeholders to list their festivals, concerts, exhibitions, food experiences, cultural celebrations, fashion and sporting events on the national calendar.

Musawa said the platform would enable Nigerians, members of the diaspora and international visitors to discover tourism and entertainment experiences across the country from a single, credible source.

Earlier, Chukwu said Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and creative sector provided enormous opportunities for tourism-driven economic growth.

She cited the contributions of tourism to the economies of countries such as Spain, France and the United States, arguing that Nigeria could equally build a $100 billion tourism economy.

Also present were Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka; Enugu State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Ugochi Madueke; NCAC Director-General, Obi Asika; National Gallery of Art Director-General, Ahmed Sodangi; ARCON Director-General, Dr Olalekan Fadolapo; and MTN Nigeria CEO, Dr Karl Toriola.

MyLagosApp and MyCityApp will serve as the digital engines of the calendar, distributing events through a 360-degree media ecosystem to audiences in Nigeria and the diaspora.

Stakeholders were encouraged to upload their events on MyCityApp to participate in the national tourism calendar urging them to upload events on http://www.MyCityApp.io.
