FCT SWAN congratulates Ighalo on his role as National Principal Cup Ambassador

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN FCT Chapter has congratulated former Super Eagles striker, Jude Odion Ighalo as an Ambassador of the National Principal’s Cup.
In a press statement issued by the Secretary, SWAN FCT Chapter on Monday in Abuja.

Chairman of SWAN FCT Chapter, Comrade Bunmi Haruna said the announcement by the Minister of Youth and sports Development Mr Sunday Dare is a testimony that Ighalo has paid his dues as a national team player.
Comrade Bunmi however commended the minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Sunday Dare for the gesture.

He also described the appointment as a round peg in a round hole. He said, “Being chosen ahead of his teammates is worth celebrating because Ighalo has been a good ambassador of Nigeria and has distinguished himself both within and outside the shores of the country.
“He did not only become the first Nigerian to play for the great Manchester United clubside but also distinguished himself as a top striker that he has always been, scoring vital goals for the club,” he noted.

Mr. Haruna further disclosed, “As an association, we are proud of him, he has set the ball rolling and as a role model, he has not disappointed, knowing fully well that so many young lads are looking up to him”

“We are also aware of his humanitarian gestures towards widows and the less privileged in the society. The Ighalo football academy and orphanage home in Lagos are just some of his laudable projects. We want to urge him not to relent and can only pray for God to continue to increase him on every sides.

“We are also using this opportunity to call on other well meaning Nigerians to reach out to people in need. Once again, a big congratulations to Ighalo and believing that this will spur him to do.more for the society.”
It would be recalled that Ighalo was named as National Principal Cup Ambassador when he paid a courtesy visit to the minister of Youth and Sports at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium , Abuja last Tuesday.

AACT 2026: 31 Days to Africa’s Big Sporting Gathering in Abuja

The countdown to the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) has officially entered the final month, with just 31 days to go before Africa’s leading women’s team golf championship tees off at the IBB International Golf & Country Club in Abuja.

In a statement signed by the AACT 2026Director of Communication Kayode Adeniyi on Friday in Abuja.

Under the theme “Africa Is Coming to Abuja,” the countdown campaign will spotlight the championship, the participating nations, the players, the host venue and the growing development of women’s golf across the continent.

The 2026 AACT, scheduled for November 2–7, will bring together women’s golfing talent from across Africa for six days of continental competition in Nigeria’s capital.

As preparations continue at the IBB International Golf & Country Club, attention is increasingly turning to Abuja, where the championship will provide a platform for African golfers to compete while also showcasing Nigeria’s hospitality and the country’s growing profile as a destination for major sporting events.

The countdown will feature daily stories, interviews, player and country profiles, tournament facts, behind-the-scenes updates and features on the host venue as the championship draws closer.

The campaign will also highlight the role of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN), the Local Organising Committee and other stakeholders in preparing for the continental championship.

With just 31 days remaining, anticipation is building across the African golfing community as Abuja prepares to welcome the continent’s leading women golfers.

Africa is coming to Abuja.
