South-South Batch A’ Umpire Seminar Successfully Conducted.

The South-South Batch A’ Umpires and Scorers Seminar and Inauguration of Akwa Ibom State Chapter recorded huge success in Uyo, the State’s Capital. The seminar which is the intermediate training and Module 2 of the Umpires and Scorers education is a Nationwide program that seeks to improve the quality, standard and capacity of Umpires across the country.

You may recall that the ACUSN introduced their module 1 in 2020 during the lockdown, where states in each each zone were trained via Zoom online meeting over a period of 3 weeks. the module 2 follows the same structure but this time, with physical meetings by participating states. The south south batch A’ seminar had in attendance, participants from Cross River and Rivers States with host Akwa Ibom.

The theory session centered around explaining some specific laws of the game, match scenarios and controversial moments, using video analysis and the law book for explanation and clarifications. The practical session took place immediately at the Cricket Pitch where infield routines of umpires was explained. Areas included, Marking the umpire’s stance , movement and positioning, ball counting, fielding restrictions and more. A total of 36 participants took part in the seminar with gender balance incorporated.

The highlight of the program was the inauguration of the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of ACUSN having fulfilled all criteria. Facilitators for the program was Musa Ehizoje Bodie, National Chairman (ACUSN) and Tonye Timinadi (National Treasurer).
