2021 V/ball Nations Cup: Nigeria qualify for Q/finals after 16 years

Joel Ajayi
Nigeria breaks 16 years jinks by qualifying for the quarterfinals of the ongoing 2021 African Men’s Senior Volleyball Nations Championship in Rwanda.
Usman Abdallah’s men dug deep to defeat Ethiopia 3-1 (25-20, 25-12, 32-34, 25-17) in their last match of Pool B.
An elated head coach of Nigeria men’s team, Usman Abdallah expressed satisfaction with his team’s display against the Ethiopia and he is now aiming to spring up a surprise in the quarterfinals.
“It was a good performance from the team today, we played really well though it was a tough game from the Ethiopians,” Abdallah said after the game.
“I am happy we could deal with the danger they posed in the first set but they became more determined in the 3rd set where they eventually won by 34-32 points”.
Abdallah said Nigeria wants to better her position in this year’s Nation’s Championship.
In 2019, Nigeria was missing at the African Nations Championship due to unseen circumstances; in 2017, we finished 13th position which was very poor. This time around, Nigeria wants to make a statement at this year’s edition”.
Nigeria will battle Cameroon in their quarterfinal match at the Kigali Arena on Saturday by 4pm.

NVBF President, Engr Nimrod Urges Families to Embrace Healthy Living at HOBA Novelty Sports

Joel Ajayi
President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Engineer Musa Nimrod, has called on Nigerian families to adopt healthy living habits through regular participation in sporting and fitness activities.
Nimrod made the call on Sunday during the third edition of the Hoba Development Association, Abuja Chapter, novelty sports event held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
He noted that physical activities such as sports are vital to fostering family bonds, community interaction, and overall well-being.
“The rate of health-related incidents such as slumping is increasing, but regular exercise helps improve the health of both parents and children,” he said. “Events like this bring families together, allowing parents and children to interact and know each other better.”
Also speaking, the stand-in Chairman of the Hoba Community, Barrister Nathan Naandeti, highlighted the significance of the annual novelty games, describing them as a unifying platform for members of the community.
“It’s something we do every year to promote unity, togetherness, and fitness among our people. Sports is part of who we are,” he stated.
Men, women, and children from the Hoba community participated in various sporting activities, including volleyball, badminton, football, and aerobics—all aimed at encouraging relaxation, fitness, and bonding among families.
