Domestic Leagues To Kick Off Soon- NBBF

After the conclusion of the Nigeria Basketball Federation Elective Congress in Benin City, the leadership of the NBBF is determined to build a domestic league structure that will reflect the immense potentials that abound in Nigeria.
Entertaining questions from journalists, Engr Musa Kida who was unanimously returned as the NBBF’s president said the symbolic election heralds new dawn with the domestic league at the center of the board’s plan.
Kida who brought his touch to bear in the last four years with the men and women national teams becoming a dominant force to reckon with at the world stage is determined to replicate the same on the domestic scene.
“My personal mantra is to make sure that since we have institutionalized in a way, we have to build structures around that to make sure that we are a sustainable entity going forward”.
“One of our biggest tasks is to look at what we have done in the last four years and build upon them with a focus on the domestic scene”.
With no legal distraction on the horizon stopping any of the domestic leagues from being organized, he assured that the board is ready to ensure that the Men and Women leagues are up and running in no time.
“We are hoping that all these stakeholders will come on board so that together we have a very enviable domestic league”.
Reflecting on the electoral process, the newly elected president said, “We are all conscious of the fact that Nigerian basketball history has been made today. Nigerian basketball election into its federation was conducted in the most democratic way with 27 states out of the 36 and the Federal Capital Territory present”.
“It was done according to the congress’s approved constitution by Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA), Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and fully domiciled with the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports. So, this gives the most positive in the history of basketball in Nigeria”.

Nigeria @ 65: Igoche Mark Pays Homage to Nigerian Athletes for Contributions

Joel Ajayi
As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence anniversary on Wednesday October 1, Basketball Promoter and Initiator of Mark D’ Ball Basketball Championship, Mr. Igoche Mark, has commended the country’s athletes for their outstanding contributions.
In a heartfelt message, Mr. Mark praised active and retired athletes for consistently putting Nigeria on the global map through their dedication, hard work, and achievements. “Your dedication, hard work, and achievements have not only brought us pride but have also inspired a generation of Nigerians,” he stated.
The Sports Administrator urged the National Sports Commission to establish a platform to celebrate these athletes and recognize their invaluable contributions to Nigerian sports. He emphasized the need to honour their legacy and provide a framework for their continued involvement in sports after retirement.
To support athletes in transition, Mr. Mark recommended that “retirement plans be implemented to ensure a seamless transition into life after sports. This would enable athletes to plan for their future and maximize their post-athletic careers.”
Furthermore, he proposed a welfare package for retired athletes, including access to healthcare, education, and economic empowerment programs. “By doing so, we can show our appreciation for their service and ensure that they are taken care of,” Mr. Mark added.
As Nigeria celebrates its 65th Independence anniversary on October 1, with the theme “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation,” Mr. Mark’s sentiments echo the sentiments of many Nigerians who believe in the importance of recognizing and supporting the country’s athletes.
