NBBF President, Igoche Mark To Roll Out Basketball Programmes Soon
All is now set for this year’s Mark D Ball Basketball Championship, the Men’s version comprising of 24 teams will dunk off on for Sunday, February 6th, at the Indoor Sports Hall, located in Package B of the MKO Abiola National Stadium Abuja.
The event which was pushed forward by a few days, due to the usage of the venue for a Table Tennis tournament, finally got the go ahead to start, after the conclusion of the event on Saturday.
The teams have been pooled into 3 Groups – A,B, and C; as they will take turns to play each other in a round robbin format, weekly – starting with Group A.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s jumpball, the President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation NBBF and Initiator of Mark D Ball Basketball Championship, Igoche Mark, explains that the championship is his pet project geared towards the development of the game; and not that of the NBBF,while stating that the federation will soon roll out developmental programmes.
“For 10 years and counting, Mark D Ball Basketball Championship has been my pet project even before I emerged as the President of NBBF.The championship is geared towards the development of the game (Basketball). It is a mixture of sport, entertainment and rewards. As stated in the Press Release I issued few days ago, the NBBF under my watch is committed to develop and expand the scope of Basketball in Nigeria. All stakeholders in Basketball including the media will benefit from our programmes.”Mark started.
The NBBF President, Igoche Mark has promised to revive the dead domestic league,following the dearth of games suffered in the last four years.
The Mark D Ball teams in Group A consist of Gombe Bulls, Police Batons, Apa Flames, Hot Coal Ballers, Nile University Spartans, AHIP Giants, Mo Heat and Safety Knights.

NEDC Disowns Circulating MSc Education Support Fund Application

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has warned the public against a fake and unauthorised message circulating on social media about an alleged Education Support Fund for Master’s degree (MSc) students.
The Commission, in a disclaimer signed by its management on Friday, described the purported programme, including its stated requirements and the alleged submission point at the NEDC office in Polo, Maiduguri, as false and unauthorised.
According to the Commission, it is not currently receiving applications for any MSc Education Support Fund as contained in the circulating message.
NEDC therefore urged prospective applicants and other members of the public to disregard the information and avoid submitting personal documents to individuals or locations claiming to be acting on behalf of the Commission.
It specifically cautioned the public against releasing sensitive documents such as National Identification Number (NIN) slips, admission letters, identity cards and indigene certificates in connection with the purported programme.
The Commission further warned the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent schemes and the unauthorised use of NEDC’s name and identity to deceive unsuspecting applicants.
It advised members of the public seeking information on its programmes, interventions and opportunities to rely only on official NEDC communication channels and verified announcements issued by the Commission
