NNL: Ihezuorochi nets another brace as City FC win again
Emmanuel Ihezuorochi scored another brace on Sunday to take his goals tally to six as City Football Club of Abuja beat Oyah Sports International FC 3-0.
The Ihezuorochi scored in a Group A1 Match Day 3 fixture in the ongoing 2021/2022 Nigeria National league ( NNL).
In the match played at the Area 10 pitch in Abuja, City FC scored from a superb strike in the 44th minute through Ekene Osigwe.
He headed in from a corner-kick by Simon Omon.
Sixteen minutes into the second half, Ihezuorochi scored from a penalty kick awarded to City FC.
In the second minute of three minutes of added time, the 20-year-old utilised Nasir Umar’s assist to score and make it his sixth goal of the season.
NAN reports that Ihezuorochi was scoring his third consecutive brace in the three league matches his club has played so far.
City FC are now leading their group with nine points from three wins in three matches, two points ahead of ABS FC of Ilorin which beat Zamfara United 4-0 on Saturday.
Speaking after the match, the coach of City FC, Sunday Okoachadu, said his team was outstanding.
“My players performed very well and I am very happy for today’s victory.
“Also, I thank God for the success achieved in the league so far.
“I believe the race in this league is going to be a race we will finish well and I believe my team will finish among the best for the Super Eight.
“In that final race, only one club can pick the premier league ticket, and I hope my team will,” he said.
On their next match away against EFCC FC, he said: “The spirit that made us to win this match today is the same we are going to utilise to play against EFCC FC on Saturday and I believe victory will be ours.”
On his part, the coach of Oyah Sports International FC, Abdulrazak Ekpoki, said it was disappointing they were having their second loss in the ongoing league.
“Our first game was against Family Worship Centre (FWC) Champions and it was postponed. Then we lost our second game against Yobe Desert Stars 0-2.
“But I am not discouraged. Rather, I am very encouraged with what I am seeing.
“This match has helped my team to push up above where we were before. We know we have made some errors, which we will definitely try to adjust.
“We will come out of it and we will start to see how we can win to get our three points,” he said.
Ekpoki added that he had accepted the defeat in good faith and congratulated City FC for their victory.
“We will try to fight back in our next game to start winning,” he said.
NAN reports that week four matches will see Oyah Sports International FC host Sokoto United of Sokoto while City FC of Abuja will host EFCC FC.

FAME Foundation to the World: Para Athletes Need Empowerment, Not Sympathy

Joel Ajayi
The founder of FAME Foundation (Female Advocacy, Mentoring, and Empowerment), Arabinrin Aderonke Atoyebi, has called on the global community to support, not pity, para athletes.
Speaking at the recently concluded Play the Game 2025 Conference held in Tampere, Finland, Atoyebi emphasized that athletes with physical challenges require empowerment, policy support, and inclusion not sympathy.
Aderonke, a fearless journalist and lifelong advocate for women and girls in sports, has consistently championed the rights of marginalized groups through her foundation.
Known for her bold and passionate advocacy, she reiterated that para athletes deserve the same opportunities and resources as their able-bodied counterparts.
The international conference, held from October 5th to 8th, brought together journalists, policymakers, and global stakeholders to discuss pressing issues under the theme: “Breaking Barriers in Sports: Integration of Marginalized Groups and Persons with Disabilities.”
Delivering a powerful and interactive lecture, Atoyebi stated: “I want to conclude by saying that para athletes around the globe need our support, policy reviews, and implementation—not our pity. They don’t need sympathy; what they truly need is empowerment.”
Her impactful contribution at the event further amplified Africa’s voice in the global call for inclusion, equality, and policy-driven change in the world of sports.
