FIBA Endorses Engr. Kida as Newly Elected NBBF President

The world basketball governing body, FIBA  congratulated the Musa Kida led Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) as the newly elected Board. 

The congratulatory message is contained in a letter titled: NBBF 2022 Elective Congress (Benin City, Nigeria), jointly signed by the FIBA President, Hamane Niang and its Secretary, Andreas Zagklis and dated March 7, 2022.

The letter reads; “FIBA acknowledges the receipt of the results of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Elective Congress held in Benin City on January 31, 2022. Accordingly, FIBA takes note of the election of the following persons to the NBBF Board for Four years.

“President: Musa Kida, Vice-president: Babs Ogunade, Representative North Central Zone: Deshi Adamu, Representative North East Zone: Abba Kaka, Representative North West Zone: Yusuf Surajo, Representative South-East Zone: Ugo Udezue, Representative South South Zone: Musa Kida, Representative South West Zone: Olumide Oyedeji.

“FIBA takes the opportunity to request your confirmation to the remaining members of the NBBF Board as per Article 21.2 (d) to (I) of the NBBF Constitution.

However, FIBA is looking forward to the close collaboration in furtherance of the development of basketball in Nigeria and beyond.

In a related development, the President of Nigeria Basketball Federation, Dr(Engr). Ahmadu Musa Kida has sent out a congratulatory message to all Nigeria women, and particularly, the country’s female basketball team, D’Tigress in celebration of the International Women’s Day.

Kida noted that like their male counterparts, Nigerian women are unarguably some of the very best in the world, due mainly to their tenacity, commitment, resilience, hardwork and unflinching passion in different spheres of endeavours. 

“Today, and as always, members of the Nigeria Basketball Federation and indeed, the basketball community rejoice with our gallant ladies, D’Tigress and celebrate them on this auspicious occasion of the International Women’s Day. 

“We are proud of your achievements so far. Even as we look forward confidently, towards you achieving better and bigger feats, beginning with the FIBA World Cup coming up later this year.”

Riyadh 2025: Nigeria’s Boxing Contingent Departs for Saudi Arabia

Team Nigeria’s boxing contingent has officially departs the shores of the country for Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, ahead of the 6th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games, taking place from November 7 to 21, 2025. 


The team forms a vital part of Nigeria’s contingent at the multi-sport event, which gathers athletes from across over 55 nations globally. Nigeria’s participation reflects the nation’s commitment to expanding its global sporting profile and using sport as a tool for unity, national pride, and youth development.


Chief de Mission, Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, described the Riyadh Games as a “crucial aspect of Nigeria’s strategic sports development plan,” emphasizing that the event serves as both a test of preparation and a pathway toward greater international success, including at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

He reaffirmed the NSC’s commitment to ensuring that Nigerian athletes receive the necessary support to excel on global platforms.


“This is more than just another international competition; it is a vital stepping-stone for our athletes toward Olympian ambitions,” Hon. Bukola Olopade said ahead of the team’s departure.

“Our team is prepared, focused, and hungry for success. We carry the hopes of the nation with us to Riyadh,” Hon. Olopade added.
Nigeria has maintained a strong presence at the Games since the inaugural edition in 2005. Over the years, the country’s athletes have recorded success across various sporting categories.


The contingent is led by experienced coaches and supported by technical staff dedicated to achieving peak performance levels.


As the competition gets set to begin in Riyadh, all eyes will be on the Nigerian contingent to deliver a performance that reinforces the country’s reputation as one of Africa’s leading sporting nations.
