As Christendom all over the world marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and His Triumphant entrance into heaven, the FCT Handball Association has charged the faithful to use the period for sobber reflection, live in love with one another, and pray for peace in Nigeria.

Chairman, FCT Handball Association Board, Ambassador (Dr) Edward Olutoke in his Easter message on Friday reminded Christians of the essence of the season and called on leaders at all levels to imbibe the spirit of sacrifice as exemplified by Jesus Christ.

Ambassador Olutoke while addressing journalists in Abuja charged Christians to live in peace with one another and pray to  God to restore unity and security in the country.

“This is a great moment among the Christian community. In fact, Easter is the definition of Christian faith because all that we do as believers are anchored on His death and resurrection.

“I, therefore, on behalf of the board, appeal to Christians to live in love with one another and pray for Nigeria. We are passing through a lot of difficult challenges as a people and only God can restore our peace and oneness.

“Our political and religious leaders should also imbibe the spirit of sacrifice as exemplified by Jesus Christ who died for our sake. When our leaders realize that power comes from God and lead the people with a fear of the Almighty, Nigeria will be a land of glory, ” he said.

Easter, also called Pascha or Resurrection Sunday, is a Christian festival and cultural holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day of his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary 30 AD.

It is the culmination of the Passion of Jesus, preceded by Lent – a 40-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance.
The 2022 Easter Celebrations will take place this Sunday, April 17.
