Volleyball: National Division 2 League Kicks off Today in Jalingo

All is set for the National Division 2 Volleyball League in Jalingo, Taraba state at the Jolly Nyame Stadium, Jalingo from 22nd to 30th April, 2022.

According to DCP Stephen Hasso (RTD), North East Zonal Representative on the board of Nigeria Volleyball Federation, seven men’s teams are expected to battle at the first phase of the Division 2 League.

He said the federation has put in modalities to ensure a successful Division 2 League is hosted in conjunction with Taraba State Government.

Hasso who doubles as the Chairman, Adamawa State Volleyball Association said, “The Nigeria Volleyball Federation is set for the Division 2 League. This is the baby of the federation; we are starting the league in Jalingo, Taraba state.

“This is the first phase and arrangements are in place for the successful hosting of this league. Five teams are on ground and more are still on their way to the venue.”

“The atmosphere of the volleyball community here in Jalingo is high; the town is aware of the championship and we believe the court will be flooded with spectators who are expectant of the championship,” he added.

Hasso rated the facilities of the Jolly Nyame Stadium, Jalingo adding that the board will ensure age grade championships are hosted to keep the facilities in use.

He said, “As you can see, Jolly Nyame Stadium, Jalingo has one of the best sporting facilities in the country and the volleyball federation is ready to partner with the state government in ensuring more age grade and national championships are hosted here.”

Plateau Rocks, Bayonet Spikers, Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Spikers, Taraba Spikers, Adamawa Spikers and Anambra Spikers will compete in the first edition of the National Division 2 League.

Cricket: Nigeria To Host ICC U19 Men’s World Cup Qualifier

Nigeria Cricket Federation , NCF, says it is ready to host five other nations for the International Cricket Council ,ICC, Under 19 Men’s World Cup African Qualifier.


The tournament is billed for Lagos, with the matches to be held at the cricket ovals in Tafawa Balewa Square ,TBS, and the University of Lagos ,UniLag, from March 26 to April 6.


Uyi Akpata, President of the Federation, said in a statement on Sunday, that the tournament is about celebrating the growth of the game on the continent.


“Nigeria is thrilled to welcome these talented young cricketers and their supporters to Lagos.
“Our nation is known for its warm hospitality and fascinating cricketing potential, and we are committed to making this qualifier a memorable experience for all.


“This tournament is not just about competition; it’s about celebrating the growth of cricket in Africa and inspiring the next generation of players”, Akpata noted.


However, Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, Tanzania and Sierra Leone will join Nigeria to jostle for the continent’s sole ticket to the 2026 ICC Under 19 Men’s World Cup.


Meanwhile, Nigeria will be hoping to secure the ticket, having achieved same feat in 2019 and competing at the World Cup in South Africa 2020
