Supersport To Cover FCT U-12/U-15 Inter-Area Council Handball Championship final

A South Africa-based television sports channel, the Supersport will cover live the final matches of the 2022 FCT U-12/U-15 Inter-Area Council Handball Championship in Abuja.

The Media Director of the FCT Handball Association, Mr Amaechi Agbo confirmed the development to newsmen in Abuja on Friday

Speaking with some journalists who came to cover the matchday 3 games at the Multi-purpose Handball Indoor Sports Hall, Old Parade Ground, Garki Abuja, Mr Agbo expressed delight that a global Channel with propensity have identified the “little work” the Handball Association is doing in the federal capital.

Mr Agbo lauded Nigeria SuperSport reporter, Mr Bowie Attamah who got in touch with him via the phone, added that no sports or sporting competition can thrive without the involvement of the media.

“Few days before the tournament got underway, I got a call from Mr Bowie Attamah who told me that he works with SuperSport, that he had read about the FCT Handball grassroots competition and will be coming over from Lagos to cover the tournament.

“On the day the competition started he sent messages requesting that I furnished him with the programme schedule and on Friday, he arrived the venue of the competition.

“We are delighted that our brand is being acknowledged all over the world. The publicity the competition received is unprecedented and I want to gave kudos to the Chairman of FCT Handball Association, Ambassador Dr Edward Olutoke and the Secretary, Mrs Hulda Nkwocha for having faith in my capacity,” he said.

He expressed appreciation to the media organisations that have supported the board so far.

“Yea, we are very grateful to several media organisations that have supported us in this competition. From the inauguration of the board earlier in the year to now, the media mileage FCT handball have received cannot be quantified.

“We want to thank AIT, NTA, ITV, Trust TV, Radio Nigeria, Vision FM, online newspapers – BSN Sports, gleamernews, Exclusivenews, Best Choice Sports, among others for the huge support. There will be no sports without the media and we cannot take this privilege for granted,” he concluded.

SuperSport is a South Africa-based Pan-Africa group of television channels carried on the DStv & Canal+ satellite platforms as well as GOtv terrestrial platform. It provides sports content in South Africa, Nigeria and many other African countries.

The final of the FCT U-12/U-15 Inter-Area Council Handball Championship for male and female will hold on Saturday, May 7, 2022.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, has commended the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, for initiating the NFF-FIFA Players’ Hostel and new training pitches, describing it as a transformational project that will boost Nigeria’s economy.


Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, Speaker Abbas praised the initiative and pledged the National Assembly’s full support.


 “This is a noble project, and the National Assembly will give it full support. I congratulate the National Sports Commission and the Nigeria Football Federation, and I thank FIFA for agreeing to fund this project,” he stated while cutting the ceremonial tape.


He also assured the House of Representatives’ support for the visionary leadership of Engineer Ibrahim Musa Gusau and the NFF in other key areas where assistance is required.

Leading the FIFA delegation, Gelson Fernandes (Deputy Chief Member Associations Officer/Regional Director, Africa) reiterated FIFA’s commitment to funding the project, emphasizing that infrastructure development has been a priority since the tenure of President Gianni Infantino began.

Expressing his excitement, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau stated that the hostel and training pitches will serve all Nigerian national teams, leagues, and academies.


“Indeed, my joy knows no bounds. From the day my Executive Committee and I were sworn into office in Benin City on Friday, 30th September 2022, I was determined to push this project forward as a legacy for Nigerian football.
“For sustained success, we must provide a conducive environment, infrastructure, equipment, and support systems that enable players and officials to perform at their best.

“Building a players’ hostel and having new training pitches will not only enhance team management but also reduce costs, allowing us to invest more in grassroots development programs.”
Several dignitaries present at the event applauded Gusau’s leadership, determination, and commitment to football development in Nigeria.


The event was well attended by local and international stakeholders, including sports enthusiasts, who witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony of the NFF-FIFA Players’ Hostel and Training Pitches.

In addition to the hostel, the project includes:Two new training pitches (one synthetic and one natural grass). Reconstruction of the existing synthetic pitch.


Also, Spectators’ sitting terraces with 1,838 seats.Two dressing rooms for players, each accommodating 27 players.Two dressing rooms for officials.

The construction is expected to last 24 months and is fully funded by FIFA under its FIFA Forward 3.0 programme.
