COMMITTEE GIVES FINAL REPORT ON DELTA 2022 MEDAL TABLE.

The Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, has received the report of the Committee of Experts it set up to review the Delta 2022 Medal Table.

According to the press statement by the  Permanent Secretary,  Ismaila Abubakar, after a comprehensive review of the report of the Committee of Experts, the Ministry released the Final Medal Table for the 21st National Sports Festival, tagged Delta 2022 in line with the recommendations of the Committee.

The Committee submitted that human errors occasioned by administrative laxity, inexperience, general delays, non-awareness and some in cases, the misapplication of the substantive Festival Rules led to the flaws observed in the earlier computed Medal Table, which has now been rectified and approved by the Ministry.

The full application of the Rules meant that the results from some events in Athletics, Scrabble, Weightlifting and Wresting, which did not meet the criteria for scoring were not recorded on the reviewed Medals Table, while in accordance with Rule 28 of the World Para Powerlifting Rules and Regulations (March 2022), only the results from ‘Best Lift Medal’ were recorded for the sport of Powerlifting.

Consequently, it is significant to note that most of the States retained their positions on the Medal Table thereby maintaining the status quo. However, some States lost some Medals as the Committee applied all extant Rules guiding the organisation of the National Sports Festival as applicable in Games of this magnitude.

In order to correct the observed anomaly and to uphold the integrity of the Festival, the Ministry would take appropriate administrative procedures to prevent future reoccurrence as recommended by the Committee.

In the reviewed Medal Table, Delta State maintained its lead with a total of 280 Gold, 168 Silver and 120 Bronze medals followed by Bayelsa, Edo and Oyo States, which pooled 106 Gold, 69 Gold and 43 Gold medals respectively.

The details of Medals by States and by Sports would be made available online and via the Ministry’s social media handles.
With this release, the Ministry has brought to a logical close, all matters relating to the issue of Medal table for the 21st National Sports Festival.

“We Live in Fear”: Lebanese Wife of AA Oil CEO Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar Appeals for Government Intervention

Mrs. Suheir Aliyu Abubakar, the Lebanese wife of prominent businessman and CEO of AA Oil, Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar, has issued a passionate appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the Ministry of Women Affairs, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, members of the National Assembly, and other well-meaning Nigerians to intervene in what she describes as a “worsening and traumatic” situation threatening her safety and that of her children.

According to Mrs. Abubakar, her marital troubles intensified after her husband issued multiple court summons containing conflicting claims regarding the status of their marriage. One summon reportedly indicated that he no longer wished to continue with the union and had accepted an abandonment dating back to 2017. Another summon dated November 14 allegedly stated that the marriage ended in 2018, urging the court to confirm the divorce and compelling her to vacate their residence.

She said these contradictory legal actions have left her confused and vulnerable, heightening her fears of being forcefully removed from her home without adequate protection for herself and her children.

Mrs. Abubakar accused her husband of subjecting her to prolonged emotional distress and neglect, noting that she has endured escalating threats that could leave her and her children homeless. She narrated how the situation further deteriorated when her husband allegedly threatened to evict them from the house, an experience she described as traumatic and deeply unsettling.

“I am living in fear. I don’t know what will happen next. I just want safety for myself and my children,” she pleaded.

Calling for immediate intervention, the Lebanese mother implored authorities, human rights advocates, and concerned Nigerians to help prevent what she believes is an attempt to wield power and influence to render her and her children destitute.

As the marital dispute deepens, Mrs. Abubakar says her greatest concern remains the uncertainty surrounding their welfare and the possibility of being left on the streets without shelter or protection.
