FIBA Rankings: D’Tigers Still No.1 In Africa, 19th In The World

Following the completion of the 2023 World Cup qualifying windows, FIBA has announced the latest ranking of the countries, 

Despite winning the top two games of the final windows in Africa, the Nigerian side lost its position to Cape Verde.

According to the latest ranking, D’Tigers placed as the top-playing basketball country in the continent and 19th in the World with 461.4 points.

Tunisia is placed second in the continent with 448.6 points and Senegal is in third position and Angola is in fourth position.

The Africa Top 10 include 1. Nigeria, 2. Tunisia, 3. Senegal, 4. Angola, 5. Coted’Ivoire, 6. Egypt, 7. South Sudan, 8. Cape Verde, 9 Cameroon and 10. Dr Congo.

8 Million Naira Up for Grabs at Chief of Defence Staff Independence Day Basketball Championship

In celebration of Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen.C.G Musa OFR is organizing a prestigious basketball championship, with an impressive 8 million naira prize purse.

The tournament, scheduled to hold from October 2-6, 2024, at the Mo Arena, Wuse Zone 5 Abuja, promises to be an exciting display of skill and athleticism.

According to the organizers, the championship aims to promote unity, teamwork, and healthy competition among Nigerian basketball teams, while also showcasing the country’s rich basketball talent.

*Prize Money Breakdown: Winner: 4 million naira, Runner-up: 2.5 million naira and Third place: 1.5 million naira

The championship will feature a round-robin group stage, followed by knockout stages. The teams will compete in two groups of five teams each, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semifinals.
