Olopade announces N2.2m prize money for 3×3 Wheelchair Basketball National C’Ship

Former President of the Wheelchair Basketball Federation of Nigeria (WBFN), Chief Bukola Olopade revealed that winners of the BetKing 3×3 Wheelchair Basketball National Championship will pocket the sum of N2.2 million naira.
The Former Commissioner for Youths and Sport made the pronouncement during the Wheelchair Basketball National Championship taking place at the Alake Sports Centre on Friday.
Olopade said the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun is a passionate lover of sports and also supports persons living with disabilities.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nilayo Sports Management Limited said his partnership with the current board led by Seyi Johnson will produce positive results.
He said, “I do not know what the prize money for this championship is but from my pocket, on behalf of the Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency Dapo Abiodun I will support this event with the sum of 2.2 million naira.
“First position in the men’s and women’s categories will go home with 500,000 naira each. Second place wins the sum of 300,000 naira each (men and women), while the third position wins 200,000 naira. The Most Valuable players win 100,000 naira each in the men’s and women’s categories”.
He promised to continue monitoring the progress of Wheelchair Basketball in Nigeria and make efforts to have the sport at the 2024 National Sports Festival.

Governor’s Cup Final: NIS DG, Shaibu, Gusua, Others leads Support for tournament

The Director General of the National Institute of Sports, Comrade Philip Shaibu and the Nigeria Football Federation president, Ibrahim Gusua has thrown their weight behind the Governor Diri Douye governor’s cup tournament.
The dou were at the finals of Governor’s Cup final between Eternal Grace Ministry FC (EGM FC) and Advance Dreams FA at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Rt Hon Philip Shaibu, Director-General of the National Institute of Sports and immediate past Deputy Governor of Edo State, was in attendance, lending his support to the event.
The Governor’s Cup tournament, which commenced earlier in 2025, has been a thrilling competition, featuring top teams from across the state.
As the match gets concluded, both teams gave their all, Comrade Philip Shaibu watched the game closely his experience as a sports administrator informing his analysis of the game.
The crowd is fully engaged, cheering on their favorite team with enthusiasm. Philip Shaibu’s presence is adding to the excitement, and he is being warmly received by the Governor of Bayelsa State and other sports enthusiasts, including NFF president, Mallam Ibrahim Musa Gusau, former super Eagles Coach and Technical Director Samson Siasia and Austin Egueavon.
As the tournament ends, the DG , National Institute of Sports hope that othe Governors should emulate their Bayless state counterpart in developing grassroots sports through cach them young.
Speaking shortly after the the tournament, Shaibu said look forward into partnership with state governments in producing experience and qualified coaches in different sports field.
