It was a sad day in the office of the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Scholarship Board, in the Ministry of Education, the office which is occupied by the expired president of SWAN Honour Sirawoo.

The office became enveloped in grief when the list of commissioners-nominee was unveiled and forwarded to Rivers State legislators without the Ogoni-born administrator’s name.

Sirawoo had in his usual egoistic nature boasted around Port Harcourt that he still had unfinished businesses in the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Rivers State where he was the Permanent Secretary for a short time but the situation of life has eventually shown and proven to him that man is not God.

He gloated all along before now that he is close to His Excellency and that they were both administered with the oath of office as Permanent Secretaries.

Going by the popular saying that “man proposes but God disposes”, the Governor of Rivers state, Siminalayi Fubara might have looked into the character of who Honour Sirawoo is, taking into consideration vices such as pride and blackmailing. It is also in the character of the SWAN President to talk down on the person he rendered help to, for his agenda to be achieved.

Reports gathered that his short disastrous spell as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Rivers State was alleged to be morally bankrupt. He boasted of his fetish and ungodly powers, staving off people with genuine advice and dampened the morale of his staff.

Honour Sirawoo’s tenure expired in October 2022 but has refused to leave office. He is now using his SWANECO puppets, ordering and instructing them on what to do. I pity the five gentlemen who hitherto had integrity but have sadly derailed because of Sirawoo.

They failed to realize that he is on the verge of dragging the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) into a serious crisis and would then retire from sports writing in Port Harcourt. Ask me, when was the last time Sirawoo performed the duties of a sports writer. What does Rivers State Scholarship Board have to do with sports writing? Pot calling kettle black!

These days, he threatens states chapters, fractionalizing SWAN leadership in not less than ten states. More than a couple were involved in court cases with the resources of SWAN wasted by Sirawoo on lawyers and the suits.

Honour Sirawoo felt he had the will, the power and might to decide others’ fate but as God ruled in the case of the appointed and confirmed Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Rivers state, the man of the people Barrister Christopher Green, his devilish plans for SWAN election in July will evaporate into the thin air.
