Inclusion of physically challenged Persons in ABL Unity Tournament bring more joy to us-Coaches

The People living with disability in the country has applauded the inclusion of physically challenged persons in the country to the ongoing Adedayo Benjamin-Laniyi ABL Football Unity tournament, saying that the gestures indeed, bring more joy to the communities.

The maiden edition of ABL FCT Unity football championship is aimed to foster unity and discover grassroot talents for the national teams.

The tournament, ABL FCT Unity football championship, started on July 8th of July and will climax on Saturday 29th July 2023 with over 1,200 young footballers. 80 teams in the six Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been slugging it at the ABL championship, which is now in quarter-finals stage.

Speaking on Thursday, in Abuja, during the game between National Deaf team and Kicker FC coach of FCT para-soccer, Umar Jimba, who was overwhelmed by the organizer’s gesture for allowing PLWD play football tournament with able people expressed that, the game indeed brought more joy to the entire disable community.

She said: “We are very overwhelmed because ABL Unity tournament track record speaks for itself, the founder has been trying a lot to assist the less priviledge people and we are happy about it.

“No doubt, the disable community will be more happy to be part of this tournament.”

Also speaking, was the coach of Nigeria National deaf team, Coach Timothy Simon, who appreciated the organizer for the initiative that is putting smiles on the faces of PLWD in the country.

However, he urged the organizer to continuously help the disable communities, revealing that the gesture remain a plus in the life of people living with disabilities in the country.

Since its inception, the marathon has attracted participants from 14 countries, with a staggering 600,000 registered athletes taking to the streets of Lagos. The 10th edition, set for February 15, 2025, is expected to be the most exciting yet, with elite athletes, amateur runners, and fitness enthusiasts converging in Lagos for a world-class sporting spectacle.

Leading up to the race, fans and participants will engage in the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon Expo from February 3-13, featuring fitness activities, brand activations, and exhibitions.

Additionally, superstar artists are set to thrill fans with live performances at the finish line, ensuring an unforgettable experience beyond the race.
