The National President of the Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria [MOUN], Comrade Julius Oghenevwegba Bobi has stated that the union would no longer tolerate a situation where their members are subjected to all manner of abuse by state governments and their agencies across the country.

According to a statement signed personally by the MOUN president and made available to the media on Sunday, he lamented that their members all over the country are been subjected to inhuman treatment which is no longer acceptable to the union.

The release read, “This is to draw your attention to the fact that the leadership of MOUN is very much aware of the travails and indiscriminate treatment meted out to our members who ride motorcycles across the country by the government and her agencies, the effect of which as the National President, I have risen to the challenge to hold a dialogue with  the government over these harassments and incessant seizure of motorcycles that are hitherto being destroyed, thereby rendering our members jobless despite being  lawful citizens of the country, who pay their taxes regularly’

“The information reaching us this week gave an estimate of about 700 motorcycles that were seized by government agencies in the FCT, Abuja, aside from other places in Nigeria. This is worrisome among other things motorcyclists are going through in Nigeria. If not harassment from the police as a result of extortions, it will be one thing or the other, a bane we can no longer tolerate”, the statement read.

Comrade Bobi maintained that the situation has forced him to write to the current Minister of FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike with a view to appealing to him to change his approach to handling the issues relating to motorcycle riders in the Federal Capital Territory.

You may want to recall that the Motorcycle Operators Union recently received their Union certificate from the Registrar of the Trade Union, Mr Amos Faloni.

According to the National President, the new development has now given them the temerity to carry out their operations in the way and manner that is regulated by the law. “We now have the full backing to exist as an entity without the harassment and molestation by anybody hence within the ambit of the law. We are poised to achieve our mission and vision statement as our core values and what the association represents.

Nigeria’s Para Badminton star, Mariam Eniola Bolaji, has won the silver medal in the Women’s Singles SL3 category at the POLYTRON Indonesia Para Badminton International 2025, which concluded on Sunday, November 2, in Surakarta, Indonesia.

Bolaji, who had been in impressive form throughout the tournament, advanced to the final after a commanding 2–0 semi-final victory over India’s Mandeep Kaur. However, in the championship match against World No. 1 Leani Ratri Oktila Syakuroh of Indonesia, the Nigerian ace was forced to retire during the first game while leading 20–16, due to a health-related concern.

Despite the setback, Bolaji’s outstanding effort earned Nigeria a well-deserved silver medal, continuing her consistent record of podium finishes at international Para Badminton events.

Reacting to the outcome, President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Barr. Francis Orbih, commended Bolaji for her courage, resilience, and professionalism throughout the competition.

“We are extremely proud of Eniola’s performance and fighting spirit,” Orbih said. “Although it was not the result we hoped for, she demonstrated true character and commitment. Winning silver at this level is a remarkable achievement for her and for Nigeria.”

The BFN President also extended heartfelt appreciation to the Nigerian Government, the National Sports Commission (NSC), the Kwara State Sports Commission, and the entire Badminton family in Nigeria for their unwavering support in ensuring the team’s successful participation in Indonesia.

“We remain deeply grateful to the leadership of the NSC and the Kwara State Sports Commission for their sponsorship and continuous encouragement. Their investment in Para Badminton has been instrumental in our athletes’ steady progress on the global stage,” Orbih added.

Bolaji’s silver medal finish reinforces Nigeria’s rising profile in world Para Badminton and serves as another milestone in the country’s journey toward greater international recognition in the sport.
