Skating championship : skaters urge federation to organise more competitions

A cross section of shakers on Saturday in Abuja urged the Skating Federation of Nigeria (SFN) to organise more competitions to make them busy with event.

The  reports have it that, skaters expressed their satisfaction over the maiden edition of the national skating championship.

Some of them who spoke  said they want more the competitions from time to time.

Speaking with Rose Sanji from FCT who took first position in the female category said she happy that she won a medal in the competition.

“I just want to participate and I didn’t know I could win a medal. We want the federation to organize more competition for us to play,”she said.


Oke Aremu from Delta state said he is happy to be part of the championship.

“I really want to thank the president for organising a national championship and we want more competitions

“I wish this can be an annual event so that we (skaters) will know that we have to participate in championship like this.

“I’m not surprised that I won a medal, because I have be doing this everyday and this is the only thing I know and I put my best in the competition,”he said.

Gideon Omotayo from Oyo said he his happy that they now have a federation.

“I use to do skating for fun because I know that we don’t belong to any federation like other sports.

“I came to catch my fun in this competition and it turn out to be a serious business for me to win a medal.

“We want more competitions, we want to be part of the world cup of possible the Olympics,’” he said.

NAN reports in the senior men category: Chidindu Vitalis from Rivers took first place .

Gideon Omotayo,from Oyo state took second and Oke Aremu from Delta state took third place in the men category of the maiden edition of the skating national championship.

In the female category championship : Lucy Moses and Rose Sanji from FCT took first and second place respectively while Rosemary David from Taraba state took third place.


In the children category from age six to 10 in the female category; Fatai Abdulazis took first place, Maryam Ismail second and Kadija Ismail third place.

In the male category: Destiny Chijioke from Abuja took first position, Yusuf Mohammed and Saleeh Abdullahi from Nasarawa took second and third place respectively.

In the kids competition from age zero to five; in the female category Halima Ismail, Adrika Hashish and Aisha Shehu from FCT took first,second and third position respectively.

In the male category : Mohammed Alamin from Niger, Adfic Finsudeen and Kahalil Ibrahim from FCT took first and second respectively.

Also, the reports says  that over one thousand athletes from 20 states that participate in the championship are : Participating state : Delta, Rivers , Nasarawa , Kebbi and Kaduna among others.

However,  the first edition of the national skating championship holds at the City Gate at the entrance of the package B of Moshood Abiola Stadium.

Cricket: Nigeria To Host ICC U19 Men’s World Cup Qualifier

Nigeria Cricket Federation , NCF, says it is ready to host five other nations for the International Cricket Council ,ICC, Under 19 Men’s World Cup African Qualifier.


The tournament is billed for Lagos, with the matches to be held at the cricket ovals in Tafawa Balewa Square ,TBS, and the University of Lagos ,UniLag, from March 26 to April 6.


Uyi Akpata, President of the Federation, said in a statement on Sunday, that the tournament is about celebrating the growth of the game on the continent.


“Nigeria is thrilled to welcome these talented young cricketers and their supporters to Lagos.
“Our nation is known for its warm hospitality and fascinating cricketing potential, and we are committed to making this qualifier a memorable experience for all.


“This tournament is not just about competition; it’s about celebrating the growth of cricket in Africa and inspiring the next generation of players”, Akpata noted.


However, Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, Tanzania and Sierra Leone will join Nigeria to jostle for the continent’s sole ticket to the 2026 ICC Under 19 Men’s World Cup.


Meanwhile, Nigeria will be hoping to secure the ticket, having achieved same feat in 2019 and competing at the World Cup in South Africa 2020
