Sports Minister Charges E-Sports Organization On Regularization with Sports Federation

Honourable Minister of Sports Development Senator John Owan Enoh has charged members of the E-SPORTS Organisation to follow due process and ensure the Sports is registered as one of the sports Federations in the country.


In a Statement issued by the Director Press of the Sports ministry Kehinde Ajayi (Mrs.) On Monday in Abuja revealed that, Minister Senator Enoh  gave the charge during a meeting with members of the organisation who were there to brief him on some of the challenges of the sport and the way forward.


The Minister stated that the ministry is desirous to have as many Sports as possible and E-Sports is one sports the people are so eager to have in the country which have the potential of creating more opportunity for the country in global sports “The Ministry is so desirous of E-Sports and aware of the deep interest of the people in the sports, if E-sports is registered, it will be one of my achievements as it will be the first sports to be registered under my watch as the first minister of sports development in the country”.


While applauding the members who have taken the sports beyond the shores of the country  the Minister encouraged  them to channel all their energy into making the Sport an international sports.


He urged them to adhere to the tenent of the Sports department to get the sports registered  organise election for the members like other Sports Federations as that’s the only way their authentication as a sports federation can be guaranteed, not by the Olympic Committee or  any international body but by the ministry he added.


Earlier in his address, the Acting Director Federations and Elite Athletes Department Mrs Amaka Ashiofu represented by the Deputy Director, Ajao Olufemi explained that the purpose of the visit is to rub minds with the Minister on the way forward to getting the E sports function effectively like every other sports federation in the Ministry.


He assures  members of the E-Sports Organisation that the Department is ready to do the needful  for its regularization as soon the Organisation meets up with the criteria to become a full sports federation in the Ministry.

Team Nigeria Jets to Cairo for 11th World Para Powerlifting Championships

Excitement is high as Team Nigeria’s para powerlifting contingent departed Nigeria on Tuesday, October 7, for the 11th World Para Powerlifting Championships set to take place in Cairo, Egypt, from October 9 to 18, 2025. 


The milestone event marks the first-ever World Championships to be hosted on African soil, symbolizing a new era for the sport on the continent.


The first batch of Team Nigeria athletes left the country on Tuesday amid cheers and well-wishes from officials, fans, and supporters.

The second batch of the contingent is scheduled to depart tomorrow, October 8, from Lagos, completing the full team that will represent the nation at this landmark competition.


Speaking ahead of the departure, officials expressed confidence in the team’s readiness and determination to uphold Nigeria’s longstanding reputation as a force to be reckoned with, in global para powerlifting.


The National Sports Commission (NSC) reaffirmed its full support for the athletes, emphasizing the government’s commitment to promoting inclusivity and excellence in sports.
