NWFL Lauds Edo Queens’ Semifinal Berth in CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers

The Chairperson of the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL), Ms. Nkechi Obi, has commended Edo Queens FC for their outstanding performance in the CAF Women’s Champions League Zone B qualifiers.


Edo Queens secured their spot in the semifinals after finishing at the top of their group with a flawless record on Saturday and the NWFL boss has expressed her excitement over their remarkable run. 


“On behalf of the NWFL board, I want to congratulate Edo Queens on reaching the semifinals. I am proud of their performance so far,” Obi stated. 


“They have shown true character and determination in this tournament. Their excellent run also justifies their domestic season title triumph. I am confident they will continue to make Nigeria and the NWFL proud as they progress further.”


The Benin Arsenals’ unbeaten streak was highlighted by a 1-0 victory over Omnisports Etincelle, with Joy Jerry’s first-half goal sealing the win. The reigning Nigeria Premier League Champions kicked off their campaign in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire, with a commanding 5-0 win over AS Garde National of Niger Republic, followed by a 3-0 triumph against Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies.


Edo Queens finished the group stage with nine points, scoring nine goals without conceding any. They will face D’Abidjan in the semifinals at Stade De La Paix in Bouake on Tuesday .


The winner of the WAFU-B zonal qualifiers will represent the zone in the finals of the CAF Women’s Champions League later this year.

Remain Calm, IBB International Golf Club Tells Members

It was an unusual scenario Saturday morning as the security agencies comprises of Police and DSS stormed the club, asking staff and members to vacate the club house and course.

While reacting to the incident, the release signed by Ibrahim Alhassan Babayo, the Captain of the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, described the incident as unfortunate and unexpected.

Ibrahim Babayo accused some minority members with vested interest who collaborated with some security men to seal the club in an attempt to disrupt the scheduled Extra-ordinary General Meeting of the Club.

The release urged everyone to remain calm, assured them that all necessary legal steps will be taken to ensure that the process of filing the Board of Trustees, BOT, vacancies is conducted correctly despite the attempts to derail the process.

The Captain said the club will not relent in its efforts to ensure fairness, transparency and due process prevail.

While assuring the members of continued support and trust, the statement asked the staff and members to await further instructions.
