Rising Stars Football League: MKO Abiola National Stadium set to host grand finale tomorrow

The grand finale of this year’s Rising Stars Football League (RSFL)  will take place at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Friday, 27th September  2024.

The final game in 66,000 -capacity Stadium  will feature grassroot talents from the two finalist,the Future Guaranteed FA and New Dawn FC where the winner between the two teams will smile home with 11 Million Naira.

RSFL which is form of the league format saw 12 teams kicked start few weeks ago across all the 6 area councils in FCT.

While Speaking at a Press conference ahead of the final game on in Abuja, the Project coordinator, Ifeanyi Kama expressed that, Federal Capital Territory will witness a showcase of exceptional young football talents during the final on Friday.

Our aims is to develop these array of talent and showcase them on our platform. Weall know thatgrassroots football in the country has been in dark for a while that is why we are working seriously to bring such opportunity back.

An elated ex international, Nigeria international and 1996 Olympic gold medalist Emmanuel Babayaro has applauded the Rising Stars Football League (RSFL) for rekindling the excitement of grassroots football in the country.

Babayaro, who has long been an advocate for the development of local football, expressed his appreciation for the league’s efforts to restore the prestige of grassroots tournaments.Also, the 2003 AFCON Winner, Juwon osinawo, thumbed the organizer for the grassroots development saying the event will help them to useful to the society.


He charged every grassroot talents to embrace the rising football league to showcase their talent.


On his own,  Captain of New Dawn Anthony Egbenu envisagd a tough match come Friday but expressed the readiness of his team to light the trophy.


He said: “The match is not going to be easy one but, on our part, we are fully prepared and ready.


However, the music star Portable will also grace the event, bringing an extra dose of entertainment to the fans.

The Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) has unveiled a groundbreaking partnership with Abbey Rangers Football Club, a renowned community football institution in the United Kingdom, marking a new era in grassroots football development in Nigeria.

Under this strategic alliance, Abbey Rangers FC will collaborate with the Lagos State Sports Commission to implement a robust seven-pillar framework focused on:
talent development, coaching enhancement, sports science, community engagement, policy support, resource mobilization, and infrastructure growth.

The partnership is a first of its kind between Nigeria and a UK-based community football club and aims to create a sustainable, inclusive, and globally competitive football ecosystem in Lagos State. It promises to unlock new international opportunities for young athletes and coaches, offering pathways for advanced training, mentorship, and global exposure.

Speaking at the official unveiling, Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, described the partnership as “a landmark step in Lagos’ mission to build a sustainable and inclusive sports ecosystem.”

“This collaboration represents a deliberate effort to connect Lagos with global best practices in grassroots football development,” Fatodu stated.

“Abbey Rangers brings proven expertise and community-driven values that align with our vision to nurture world-class talent and position Lagos as a continental hub for youth sports excellence.”

In his remarks, Abbey Rangers Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Nick Riley, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, noting that it reflects the club’s long-standing commitment to community-driven sports development.

“We are proud to partner with Lagos State on this visionary initiative,” Riley said.

“Abbey Rangers has always believed that community football is a powerful tool for development, inclusion, and opportunity. This collaboration allows us to share our grassroots model and experience with one of Africa’s most dynamic cities.”
