NYLC: 60 players storm Abuja for Mid-Season Talent Invitational Showcase

The organizers of the maiden edition of N-Youth League Cup (NYLC) U-19 has invited 60 best players for Mid-Season Talent Invitational Showcase.
The invited players are to report to Abuja on Jan 5th .
The talent showcase will run from Jan 9th to Jan 12th at the MKO National Stadium, Abuja culminating in an Exhibition match between N-YLC All Stars and Abia Warriors on Jan 12th.
NYLC president, Robinson Adakosa disclosed to our correspondent that the 60 players are selected based on performance and analytics data from Wyscout.
According to Adakosa, “training will begin on the 6th of Jan on daily basis with three days of training slated for the players before displaying their talents in the Showcase Game with the players divided into 4 group”
“The Showcase Game 1 will hold on Jan 9th . The Showcase Game 2 will take place on Jan 10th while Showcase Game 3 will hold on Jan 11th Adakosa said .
A breakdown of the list shows that AS Roma has 7 invited players, they are: Usoro Augustine, Greg Odubu, Amobi Chidiebere, Valentine Chidera, David Nelson, Uchechukwu Ibeh and Temioluwa Odetunde.
The trio of Kano Pillars , Sunshine Stars of Akure and Atlantic Business of Lagos can boast of 4 players each.
Adamu Ibrahim, Abdulahi Haruna, Mustapha Muhammad and Umar Muhammad will all fly the flag of Kano Pillars while Mathew Samuel, Yakubu Shuaibu, Favour Ayobamidele and Nurudeen Khali will represent Sunshine Stars of Akure.
Atlantic Business Fc will parade the likes of Moyosore Onikoyi, Dimeji Paul, Ledogo Wisdom and Oworo Sabitu.
3 players will represent Enyimba Fc of Aba in the talent showcase, they are-Samuel Okechukwu, Eze Mathew and Chinedu Nathan.
Abuja based Mailantarki Care Fc will parade Abdul Samatat, Adamu Yahaya and Miko Dauha.
Legacy Stars Fc of Abuja has 3 players invited, Francis Miracle, Mathias Mallel John and Sadiq Salihu.
Two players each will represent Mighty Jets of Jos, ABS of Ilorin, Kwara United FC, Plateau United Fc, Plateau Jets Fc, Abia Warriors Fc and Bucknor Fc.
The NYLC which is an U19 league is on halfway break with Kano Pillars and Sunshine of Akure leading the table in their respective conferences.

FCT Golf association targets grassroots growth, Olympic success

The FCT Golf Association has unveiled ambitious plans to promote golf at the grassroots level while pursuing Olympic dreams for Nigeria.


Speaking to journalists, the association’s chairman, Mr. Akabong Enebong, expressed pride in the achievements of Nigerian golfers and reiterated the group’s commitment to further growth.


“Our athletes in golf have been doing exceptionally well, and as an association, we aim to help them achieve even greater success at the next National Sports Festival,” he said.


Akabong emphasized the importance of grassroots development, revealing partnerships with the FCT Education Board to establish golf academies and ranges in five schools, including those in Tundun Wada, Gwarinpa, and Garshi. “This initiative will not only develop future golfers but also introduce young students to the sport,” he explained.


The association also announced a partnership with former Super Eagles striker Osaze Odemwingie, who transitioned to professional golf in 2019. After graduating from the Professional Golfers Association’s school in 2024, Odemwingie is focused on bringing Nigeria to the global golf stage.


“We’re thrilled to collaborate with Osaze, who will play a key role in grooming young golfers for the Olympics. This partnership reflects our belief in the potential of Nigerian youths,” Akabong added.
