NSC DG, Hon. Bukola Olopade Extols Gov. Peter Mbah’s Leadership Strides

The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has commended the Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Peter Mbah, for his visionary leadership and transformative strides since assuming office.
In his remarks, Hon. Olopade praised the Governor for steering the state toward progress and development.
“It’s obvious to all that Enugu is on the right path under the Governor’s leadership, with the remarkable transformation taking place since he came onboard,” he stated.
“This is what leadership is all about—ensuring that people feel the tangible impact of governance and experience a well-organized system.”
Hon. Olopade expressed the NSC’s enthusiasm for Enugu State hosting the 2026 National Sports Festival, emphasizing the Commission’s confidence in the state’s readiness.
“The NSC is excited that Enugu State will host the 2026 National Sports Festival. From the communications and meetings we’ve had, we are optimistic about the success of the Games. I have positive messages to take back to my chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko.”
To ensure the festival’s success, Hon. Olopade revealed that the NSC is already setting up committees to handle various aspects of the event.
“We are establishing committees that will be responsible for different facets of the Games. Continuous discussions and meetings will ensure we are all aligned as we prepare for this monumental event,” he explained.
He concluded by congratulating the people of Enugu and expressing optimism about the upcoming festival. “Congratulations to the people of Enugu. We are all looking forward to a memorable National Sports Festival in 2026.”
After 28 years since it hosted the Games, Enugu State is poised to deliver an exceptional festival that will leave a lasting legacy for the state and the nation.

Team Nigeria Jets to Cairo for 11th World Para Powerlifting Championships

Excitement is high as Team Nigeria’s para powerlifting contingent departed Nigeria on Tuesday, October 7, for the 11th World Para Powerlifting Championships set to take place in Cairo, Egypt, from October 9 to 18, 2025.
The milestone event marks the first-ever World Championships to be hosted on African soil, symbolizing a new era for the sport on the continent.
The first batch of Team Nigeria athletes left the country on Tuesday amid cheers and well-wishes from officials, fans, and supporters.
The second batch of the contingent is scheduled to depart tomorrow, October 8, from Lagos, completing the full team that will represent the nation at this landmark competition.
Speaking ahead of the departure, officials expressed confidence in the team’s readiness and determination to uphold Nigeria’s longstanding reputation as a force to be reckoned with, in global para powerlifting.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) reaffirmed its full support for the athletes, emphasizing the government’s commitment to promoting inclusivity and excellence in sports.
