U-20 AFCON: House Sports Committee Chair Urges Flying Eagles to Stay Focused on World Cup Ticket, Eighth Title

Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Honourable Kabiru Amadu, has congratulated the Nigeria U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles, on their qualification for the quarterfinals of the 2025 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, while urging the team to remain focused on securing a World Cup ticket and claiming a record-extending eighth continental title.
The Flying Eagles finished second in Group B with five points, trailing group leaders Morocco who amassed seven points. Nigeria will face the top team from Group C—likely to be either DR Congo or Ghana—depending on the outcome of the final round of group matches.
In a statement issued on Monday, Honourable Amadu, who represents the Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency, praised the team’s efforts and underscored the importance of maintaining their momentum in the knockout stage.
“I congratulate the Flying Eagles for their qualification into the quarterfinal of the 2025 CAF U-20 African Nations Cup,” Amadu said. “On behalf of the National Assembly, I urge the team to remain focused on the bigger goal—qualifying for the FIFA U-20 World Cup and ultimately winning the African title for the eighth time.”
The lawmaker also reaffirmed the full support of the Nigerian people and government. “We want to assure the players and officials that Nigerians, the National Assembly, and the Federal Government are solidly behind them,” he added.
Nigeria remains the most successful nations in the tournament’s history, having lifted the U-20 AFCON trophy seven times. The current squad now has its sights set on extending that legacy. The quarter-final game will hold on Monday, 12th May, 2025 in Ismaila, Egypt.

NVBF President, Engr Nimrod Urges Families to Embrace Healthy Living at HOBA Novelty Sports

Joel Ajayi
President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Engineer Musa Nimrod, has called on Nigerian families to adopt healthy living habits through regular participation in sporting and fitness activities.
Nimrod made the call on Sunday during the third edition of the Hoba Development Association, Abuja Chapter, novelty sports event held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
He noted that physical activities such as sports are vital to fostering family bonds, community interaction, and overall well-being.
“The rate of health-related incidents such as slumping is increasing, but regular exercise helps improve the health of both parents and children,” he said. “Events like this bring families together, allowing parents and children to interact and know each other better.”
Also speaking, the stand-in Chairman of the Hoba Community, Barrister Nathan Naandeti, highlighted the significance of the annual novelty games, describing them as a unifying platform for members of the community.
“It’s something we do every year to promote unity, togetherness, and fitness among our people. Sports is part of who we are,” he stated.
Men, women, and children from the Hoba community participated in various sporting activities, including volleyball, badminton, football, and aerobics—all aimed at encouraging relaxation, fitness, and bonding among families.
