President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Francis Orbih, has commended the success and impact of the 2025 Abia Open Badminton and Para-Badminton Tournament, describing it as a vital platform that will enhance the readiness of Nigerian athletes ahead of major international competitions.

Speaking to Journalists on Friday in Abuja, Orbih noted that the tournament marked a turning point for the sport in Nigeria, particularly for para-badminton, which had not seen a national championship since 2022.

“It has truly been an encouraging period for badminton in Nigeria.

“The return of the national para-badminton championship after nearly three years is a major milestone. The Abia Open served as an ideal test run ahead of the two major international events we have lined up for September and October.

“It allowed us to assess our level of preparedness, and I must say, it was a successful outing — both logistically and competitively.”
