The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has successfully concluded a two-day strategic meeting with the International Cricket Council (ICC) in Lagos, aimed at redefining and repositioning cricket in Nigeria for sustainable growth and development. The event, held on November 7th and 8th, brought together key stakeholders to review and update the NCF’s strategic policy framework.

According to a statement by the NCF’s Public Relations and Business Development Manager, Musa Ehizoje Bodie, the strategy seminar was facilitated by two renowned South African cricket experts — Prof. Jacques Faul, CEO of Titans Cricket Club, and Mr. Eddy Fwamba, Brand Marketing and Commercial Consultant for ICC and Cricket South Africa.

Participants at the meeting included NCF Board Members, senior management staff, and regional representatives, all selected to ensure balanced input from across the federation. The interactive sessions provided a platform to realign NCF’s vision and set new actionable goals for the sport’s development nationwide.

Declaring the meeting open, NCF President Dr. Uyi Akpata reflected on the federation’s journey so far, highlighting progress in grassroots development, high-performance programs, administration, and partnerships, while acknowledging the challenges encountered along the way.

Mr. Justine Lyngialigi, ICC Africa’s Regional Development Manager, emphasized the need for NCF’s new strategic direction to align with ICC’s global objectives. He presented an assessment of Nigeria’s performance, identifying areas of strength and improvement to better leverage ICC opportunities.

On the first day, Prof. Faul led discussions under the theme “Resetting for the Future”, focusing on where the federation currently stands, where it aims to be, and the roadmap to achieving those goals. Participants engaged in breakout sessions on High Performance and Development, sharing insights and presenting group strategies.

The second day centered on commercial growth. Mr. Fwamba delivered an engaging presentation on enhancing NCF’s brand visibility, attracting corporate partnerships, expanding fan engagement, and ensuring sustainable financial models for the sport.

Wrapping up the event, Prof. Faul outlined what success should look like for Nigerian cricket, while Dr. Akpata announced the appointment of committee heads who will lead the implementation of the federation’s new strategic plan over the next four years.

The two-day meeting marked a significant step toward positioning Nigeria as a rising force in global cricket.
