Funke Fadeni Foundation Marks 10th Remembrance, Empowers 4,000 Women in Ondo
Cyril Ogar
The Funke Fadeni Foundation has empowered over 4,000 indigent women in Ondo City, Ondo State, as part of activities marking the 10th remembrance of late Chief Adefunke Fadeni.
The outreach, held on Tuesday at the family residence located at No. 17 Ebenezerie Street, Aiyeyemi, Ondo City, saw beneficiaries receive bags of rice and financial support aimed at improving their livelihoods.
Speaking at the event, the Group Managing Director of KSI Group, Engr. (Dr.) Koleola Emmanuel Fadeni, urged women to embrace entrepreneurship and self-reliance rather than depending solely on government support.
He explained that the empowerment programme formed part of a broader five-day memorial initiative organised by the foundation to honour the legacy of his late mother, who was deeply committed to humanitarian causes during her lifetime.
According to him, the initiative specifically targeted widows, single mothers, and other vulnerable groups in need of assistance.
“What we are doing today is reaching out to those who truly need help—widows, single mothers, and others facing hardship. We have carried out similar programmes in places like Bwari Area Council in Abuja and Akure, but it was important to bring this gesture home to Ondo, in remembrance of my mother,” he said.
Fadeni encouraged women to remain resilient despite economic challenges, stressing the importance of acquiring skills or engaging in productive ventures.
“The country may be going through difficult times, but every woman should strive to have a means of livelihood. We have also trained youths in various skills over the past two weeks. It is important for everyone to be engaged in something meaningful before looking up to the government,” he added.
He reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to sustained empowerment initiatives, including providing startup support, clothing, and financial assistance to help women establish small businesses.
Fadeni also called on government at all levels to intensify efforts in reaching vulnerable populations, noting that while progress has been made, more needs to be done.
“We acknowledge that the government is trying, but more effort is required. Leadership must be supported by capable and sincere aides who can effectively implement policies and ensure that help reaches the grassroots,” he said.
Beneficiaries, including Mrs. Florence Ogunduyile and Mrs. Blessing Olamide, expressed gratitude to the foundation for the support, offering prayers for its continued growth and impact in uplifting communities.
