Rivers State governorship aspirant under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Blessing Fubara, has said his decision to seek the state’s top office is driven by a desire to restore good governance and improve the welfare of Rivers people, rather than personal ambition.

Speaking during an interview on TVC on Monday, June 1, 2026, Fubara addressed concerns over the delay in the announcement of results from the NDC governorship primaries, explaining that the party is carefully reviewing complaints and grievances raised by delegates to ensure a transparent and credible process.

According to him, the delay reflects the party’s commitment to democratic principles and fairness.

“Every strong democratic institution allows room for grievances and complaints to be heard,” he said. “The NDC is taking the necessary time because concerns have been expressed regarding the process. The party’s internal mechanisms are working to ensure that all issues are thoroughly examined before a final decision is reached.”

Fubara disclosed that the party was expected to conclude its review and announce the outcome of the primaries by Tuesday, June 2, urging aspirants and supporters to remain patient and trust the process.

He expressed confidence that the eventual results would reflect the true wishes of party members and the people of Rivers State.

Speaking on his motivation for contesting, Fubara said many residents have voiced concerns about the performance of the current administration and are seeking a new direction for the state.

“From all indications, the people believe the ruling party has not done enough for the overall development of Rivers State,” he stated. “As a Rivers son with the constitutional right to vote and be voted for, I am offering myself for service with the conviction that we can restore good governance and deliver better outcomes for our people.”

The governorship hopeful stressed that although politicians may differ in ideology and approach, his primary objective remains service to the people and the advancement of the state.

Meanwhile, the NDC National Secretariat and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are yet to release the official results of the Rivers State governorship primaries, with party officials confirming that collation and verification processes are ongoing to address issues raised during the exercise.
