Oneball Boys, TNT Headline 16 Teams Through to ABA League Knockouts
Following one week of intense battle among 40 Basketball Academies teams in Abuja, 8 Boys’ teams and 8 girls’ teams are now in the knockout stage of the ongoing 2026 ABA league at the Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Basketball Courts, Abuja.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Head of Media and Publicity Amateurs Basketball Academies Kayode Adeniyi in Abuja stated that after 11 matches in Group A, Oneball Boys topped the table with 21 points, having won 10 matches. TNT Boys with the same matches won, and same points followed, while Love Boys and Suleja Bulldogs occupied third and fourth positions.
In group B, Full Force Boys led, followed by Eco Titans, Queens Court Boys and Dominion.
In the girls’ league A table, Oneball Girls occupied the first position, while TNT, Love and Suleja followed. In group B, Queens Court Girls, Dominion, Smarth and Plastic made it to the next round.
Meanwhile, actions resume on Monday, following 2 days of rest.In the pairing for Quarter final games, Suleja Bulldogs Boys will welcome Gillalli Academy at Court 1 while the game between Full Force against Dominion will hold at Court 2.
TNT and Gwarimpa Hawks will lock horns at court 3 as Eco Titans engage Queens Court Boys in the last quarter finals boys games. In the girls’ game, Smarth Academy will host Dominion in Court 2, while Queens Academy battles Plastic Academy in court 1. Oneball face Suleja Divers in court 3 as TNT slug it out against Love Academy in another match.
An elated ABA head of technical officials, Coach Adeka Daudu, said the league so far has showcased hidden talents and surpasses everyone’s expectations. He commended players and their coaches for their exemplary behavior during the week-long competition. He, however, urged Abuja residents to come and give the young players necessary support as they display skills, energy, determination, and competitive spirit.
While commending the participating Academies, President and Founder Amateur Basketball Academies, DC Aliyu Lucky Abubakar reminded them that talent alone does not guarantee success.
According to him, talent must be identified early, guided properly, developed progressively, and exposed to the right competitive environment. He assured that the success of this league will spur ABA to do more.

Fresh Ideas, Science Needed to Revitalise Basketball —ABA

President/Founder, Amateur Basketball Academies, ABA, Aliyu Lucky Abubakar has called for a scientific and pragmatic approach to rediscovering the game of basketball in the North East.
The former player of many teams in Nigeria stated this on Saturday during training of coaches in Yola, Adamawa State.
Aliyu said the training is aimed to arm Coaches so they can, in turn, reach the children, especially those that ABA may not. The Deputy Comptroller in Nigeria Customs Service decried non-challant attitudes of the stakeholders in the development of basketball in the North East.
” Basketball is fading in the North East, and we at ABA will not allow it to die.”
“Adamawa was once a force in the game of basketball but had fallen behind. Our plan is to discover talent through coaching training, nurture it, and carry it from state level to the national team, and eventually, the global stage.” The basketball administrator said.
In his keynote message to the participants, which centered on the theme, “HOPE,” Harnessing opportunity, Organising for excellence, Promoting players’ development, and Empowering the next generation, Aliyu said, is far more than a drill instructors.
” Every child you see on a basketball court has a dream, and it is our job as a coach to spot it early and give it somewhere to go.” He concluded.
In his lecture titled, ” Who is a Coach”, Emmanuel Odah, the head Coach, FCT Basketball and former National Juniors team, described a coach as a committed, organised, affectionate, caring and humble.
” Commitment is consistency, and consistency is mother of progress; humility comes first because a coach who can not control himself can never control a game,” Odah insisted.
Other instructors at the training include ABA head of technical, Coach Adeka Daudu, as well as Coach Alexander Anyebe Ujoh, who spoke about the relationship between a coach and child in his care.
Coaches at the training commended ABA for its boldness to give hopes to basketball coaches all over the country. They promised that lessons learned would reshape and reset their mind on the job. They said the training will help them in understanding their role not only as an instructor but also grooming the children for a better future.
