Lucky Yay! Turns Grief Into Hopeful Conversation on World Suicide Prevention Day

Emerging Nigerian artiste Lucky Yay! is using a deeply personal experience of loss to encourage conversations about grief, human connection and the importance of checking on loved ones.

In a statement e-Signed by Label Representative, A&R Associate, U-Records & Entertainment Johnson ‘Tivo’ Ukoha on Thursday revealed that, the Signed to U-Records, the artiste is marking World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10 with “One More Minute,” a digital campaign inspired by his emotional single, “Tilda.”

“Tilda” explores the pain of losing someone loved, capturing the grief, disbelief and unanswered questions that often follow a devastating loss, particularly when there are things left unsaid.

From Remembrance to Connection

Rather than dwelling on the circumstances surrounding death, One More Minute focuses on those left behind—the memories, love and conversations that can no longer take place.

At the centre of the campaign is a simple but powerful question: If you had one more minute to talk to someone, who would it be and what would you say?

The campaign invites members of the public to share the people they miss, memories they cherish and what they would say if given one final opportunity.

The reflections will be developed into short-form digital stories featuring Lucky Yay! and members of the public, creating a collective conversation around love, loss and remembrance.

A Message for Those Still Here

For Lucky Yay!, the campaign goes beyond music, urging people to recognise the importance of reaching out before it is too late.

“With One More Minute, I want people to think about the people they miss, but also the people currently in their lives. If there’s somebody you love, somebody you haven’t spoken to in a while, or somebody you know might be going through something, reach out to them,” he said.

The campaign encourages people to ask themselves: Who haven’t you checked on? Who haven’t you called? Who might need someone to listen?

“Start the conversation. Check on someone today,” Lucky Yay! urged.

World Suicide Prevention Day

Observed annually on September 10, World Suicide Prevention Day seeks to raise awareness, challenge stigma and encourage open conversations about suicide prevention and mental health.

The 2026 global theme, “Changing the Narrative on Suicide,” calls for greater openness and action in addressing suicide and mental health challenges.

Through One More Minute, Lucky Yay! contributes to that conversation by using music and personal storytelling to promote empathy, reflection and meaningful human connection.

“Sometimes we don’t realise how important a conversation is until we don’t have the chance to have it anymore,” he said.
