Joel Ajayi

The City Boy Movement Sports has concluded all modalities for the commencement of the highly anticipated Tinubu/Shettima Peace and Unity National Cup, with the flag-off scheduled for Kano, host of the North-West Centre.

The competition will kick off on Tuesday, 10th November 2026, beginning with the North-West region, as announced by Abubakar Sani, Coordinator, North-West, City Boy Movement Sports.

The Tinubu/Shettima Peace and Unity National Cup is a nationwide grassroots football competition that will cut across all 774 Local Government Areas in Nigeria, providing a platform for raw talents across the country to be discovered.

The competition is primarily aimed at promoting peace and unity across the nation, while also giving grassroots talents a genuine pathway to stardom.

According to the organisers, foreign scouts and national team coaches will be present when the competition reaches the national stage, offering participating players direct exposure to opportunities at home and abroad.

The initiative is part of the Tinubu Renewed Hope Agenda to open up grassroots sports and create opportunities for young talents, at a time when it has become increasingly difficult for raw talent at the grassroots to be discovered.

The competition will commence with the North-West region, where all 186 Local Government Areas in the zone will have the opportunity to showcase their talents. The full arrangements, details and schedule of the competition structure will be unveiled subsequently.

Participating teams will enjoy massive incentives, including: Mobilisation fee for each participating Local Government, Full sets of jerseys for participating teams, Match balls and other playing materials

The competition is being coordinated by former Super Eagles defenders, Shehu Abdullahi and Kenneth Omeruo, National Deputy Director of Sports and National Assistant Director of Sports City Boy Movement respectively. Both men, who represented Nigeria and played for notable European clubs, are grounded in the game and are expected to deliver a fascinating show for sports enthusiasts in Northern Nigeria.

The Press Conference for the Tinubu/Shettima Unity & Peace National Cup (North-West) will hold Monday, 9th November 2026.
