My Desire Is To Strengthen Skills Acquisition Programme-NYSC DG

Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim has vowed to do everything within his power to ensure the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development SAED has given adequate attention to enable the corps members to achieve their desired goal.

 

Ibrahim stated this when Youth Correspondent Association of Nigeria  YCAN Under the leadership of Romanus Ugwu paid him a courtesy visit to congratulate him on his appointment and pledge their support for him to succeed.

He expressed the intervention of the initiatives to the Scheme in youth empowerment has recorded a lot of growth and development in the past and would do everything possible to strengthen the scheme.

DG enumerated other areas, 5 key points agenda focus on improvement welfare and security of Corps members, expansion of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme of the scheme amongst others.

Speaking on the SAED, DG said more skill centers would be established while the Scheme would also pursue greater stakeholders’ involvement for skill and material support.

According to him, ‘I see my second coming as a privilege and it’s like I wear the shoe and I know where the shoe pinches, my desire is to take the scheme to a higher pedestrian’.

Jobs are not readily available, that why we are strengthening the scheme to ameliorate we have introduced both in the camp and after the camp training, at the end of the exercise.

“We have put in place two centers in full operation for the corps members we are not stopping there, we have made provisions for additional equipment so, that it will further encourage them.

“I can assure you that with our partnership with Access Bank, we are going to have three additional centers.

“At 50, I want the NYSC to be at the most higher pedestrian than what we are in the area of technology? I want a situation whereby we’re driven by Information Technology, and also want to further strengthen skill acquisition so that people will further see the relevance of NYSC” the NYSC boss said while asking him where he wants the scheme to be at 50.

“In terms of job creation, with the scheme, the issue of unemployment will be reducing as those who acquired the skill will become employers of labor.”

He, however, assured that the Scheme would continue to keep its doors open to them for clarification on matters regarding the scheme’s operations.

Infrastructural development will take center stage, with new facilities such as indoor sports halls, conference centers, and improved road networks reshaping urban landscapes while strengthening the nation’s capacity to host future international events.


Economic growth is another significant dividend. Over 10,000 jobs are expected to be created, spanning construction, facility management, event planning, and tourism services.

The hospitality industry will undergo major improvements as hotels and resorts are upgraded to meet international standards, while local restaurants, lounges, and tourist attractions will see a surge in patronage from international visitors. Small and medium enterprises, particularly in the transport, finance, and food service sectors, will become some of the greatest beneficiaries, as the Games generate new demand and expand opportunities for local businesses.
The Commonwealth Games will also accelerate the growth of Nigeria’s sports industry.

Investments in training facilities, coaching, and talent development will inspire a new generation of athletes, ensuring long-term benefits that extend beyond 2030, a major focus of the President Bola Tinubu administration. 
At the same time, the process of preparing for the Games will create opportunities for Nigerians to learn new crafts, acquire technical skills, and engage in global-standard event management, thereby strengthening human capacity and innovation across industries.
