AACT 2026: LGAN Assures IBB Club Will Be Ready for Championship
By Joel Ajayi
The Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) has allayed concerns over Nigeria’s preparedness to host the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT), assuring the continental golfing community that the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, will be ready for the championship.
The assurance followed an inspection of the ongoing renovation works at the golf club by the leadership of the club and the President of LGAN, Lami Ahmed.
In a statement signed on Tuesday in Abuja by the Media and Communications Director of AACT 2026, Kayode Adeniyi, the inspection team assessed the progress of work on the golf course, including the greens and selected holes.
The IBB International Golf and Country Club has been closed to golfing activities for more than a year as part of the renovation being undertaken with the support of the Federal Government.
The inspection revealed significant progress ahead of the championship scheduled for November 2 to 7, 2026.
Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Hon. Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, CFR, expressed confidence that the facility would be ready to host the continental competition.
Chairman of the Interim Management Committee, Peter Deshi, also disclosed that the club is expected to reopen for golfing activities in less than a month.
The rehabilitation is not limited to the golf course, as the clubhouse and other facilities are also being renovated to improve the overall environment ahead of the tournament.
Speaking after the inspection, LGAN President Lami Ahmed commended the Board of Trustees and the Interim Management Committee for the progress recorded so far.
Ahmed urged members of the African golfing community, sponsors and other stakeholders to look forward to the championship, expressing confidence in the preparations for Nigeria’s hosting of the prestigious tournament.
The AACT is one of Africa’s major women’s amateur golf competitions and Nigeria’s hosting of the 2026 edition is expected to provide an opportunity to showcase the country’s golfing facilities and talent.
With the course, clubhouse and ancillary facilities undergoing rehabilitation, LGAN said the progress made so far provides reassurance ahead of the continental championship.
The 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy is scheduled to hold at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, from November 2 to 7, 2026.
