After NPFL Stats: Alimi, Mizo lead race for Golden Boot

After a
total of 108 of 110 fixtures concluded in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) 2023/24season, Remo Stars Sikiru Alimi and Robert Christian Mizode of Bayelsa United are joint top scorers with nine goals 

Mizo as he is popularly called by Bayelsa United fans narrowly missed out on the Golden Boot last season to Enyimba’s Emeka Mbaoma.


In other stats released by the NPFL Competitions Department, 79 wins have been recorded with 73 registered by home sides while six wins were on the road and 29 draws.


The season has so far recorded a total of 215 goals, an average of over 2 goals per match. Of the lot, 151 goals were scored by the home teams and 64 by the traveling teams.


Referees have awarded a total of 16 penalties and while 12 were scored, the rest four were missed. There have been seven own goals out of the 215 scored.


In the course of the 108 fixtures, a total of 407 cautions have been issued by Referees with 11 players expelled from games.


After MatchDay 11 games during which Rivers United missed two due to international club competition fixtures, Remo Stars lead on the log with 22 points, 17 goals for, and nine against to have a plus-eight goals surplus. The Ikenne side has equally proven to be the most prolific, banging in 17 goals. 

With just five goals conceded so far, Doma United and Bendel Insurance parade the best defensive walls. On the other hand, Bayelsa United has the worst defense, shipping in 20 goals.

From Streets to Stardom: Unique Futbol Academy Scouting Program Inspires Ibadan’s Young Footballers

Ibadan is buzzing with excitement as the Unique Football Academy Scouting Program kicks off, bringing together top European football clubs and talented young Nigerian players.

The four-day program, which commenced on Monday, features a delegation of four directors from prominent European teams, including two from Kosovo and one from India, led by renowned football agent Diego Martins from Portugal.


The scouting program aims to identify and select outstanding players who will be given opportunities to showcase their skills in Europe.

Successful players will be offered the chance to take their careers to the next level, with the organizers assuring them of opportunities abroad.


According to the Director of the program and founder of Unique Football Academy, Mr. Jelil Oladimeji, this is not the first time the academy has organized such an event.

“This is the 4th edition, and we are proud of the progress and impact we have made so far in terms of exposing our raw talent to the European market,” he said.


The program has already proven successful, with several players from previous editions going on to excel in European leagues. Some notable examples include Haruna Saleh with PAOK in Greece and Praisegod Emersons in Slovakia. 


As the program continues, clubs are gearing up to exhibit their talents, and the future looks bright for Nigeria’s young football stars.
