Bayelsa state male and female football teams made history by booking the finals of the most prestigious club cup competition in Nigeria.
Bayelsa United booked their place in the final by out classing “noisy neighbours” Rivers United through Okardi Inikurogha goal in the 68 minutes.
You will recall that, Bayelsa Queens FC also defeated Rivers Angels 5-0 to be in the finals of the women’s AIETO Cup.
Bayelsa state commissioner for sports and youth development, Honourable Daniel Igali expressed his excitement at the success of both teams under his watch.
The astute administrator urges Bayelsa United and Bayelsa Queens to go for trophies in the finals.
“I want to congratulate the chairman and board of Bayelsa United Football Club; I want to specially recognize and appreciate the players who throughout this AITEO Cup campaign thus far has exhibited a mission statement and recorded a giant stride despite being in the lower league”.
Expressing his heartfelt joy, all the way from Tokyo where he is grooming Nigeria wrestlers ahead of prospective podium finish, Igali hails Governor Diri for investing heavily in sports development in Bayelsa state and the country in general.
“I want to thank the Governor of Bayelsa state, His excellency, Sir Douye Diri and his Deputy Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo for their supports and creating enabling environment for sports to thrive in the state”.
The AITEO Cup final match against Nasarawa United will take place on August 8, 2021 a Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, Edo state.
