Allsvenskan: Amoo’s stunning strike returns Hammarby to winning ways

Nigerian midfielder, Akinkunmi Amoo made a scoring return to the starting XI for Swedish side Hammarby IF as he scored the game’s only goal to lead them to an important 1-0 win, over AIK on Sunday.

Without a win in their last two games, Head Coach Milos Milojevic corrected his last two matchday mistakes as he returned the quick footed midfielder to the starting XI, while pushing him further upfront to join the attack.

The 19-year-old Amoo, however hit the ground running from the blast of the whistle, with the game’s first real opportunity falling to the Nigerian after the half hour mark, and Amoo brilliantly dribbled past three markers before seeing his goal bound effort deflected wide for a corner kick.

The visitors then had a chance of their own at the other end but goalkeeper Dvid Ousted had to be alert to deny Nabil Bahoui from opening the scoring.

A mistake at the back almost proved costly for the host but AIK failed to capitalise on it with both teams going into the break level at 0-0, and of course, Amoo’s effort was the closest as the host came to finding a goal.

The second half, however started in similar scenario with the hosts, breaking from a swift counter attack and fellow strike partner Gustav Ludwigson, dribbled past his marker before squaring up for the Nigerian who made no mistake to stab home the opener just before the hour mark.

The goal brought out the best in Hammarby and they soon found the net again but this time the visitors were spared with the referee whistle coming to their rescue for an offside call.

Clearly not satisfied by the solitary goal, Amoo almost doubled his side’s lead fifteen minutes from the time he netted the first Goal but his well taken shot was matched by goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt in goal for AIK.

The visitors also had a chance to steal a point at the dead but fired wide from close range- although, Amoo’s strike proved to be the difference for Hammerby who returned to winning ways.

The strike took the 19-year-old tally to 7 league goals in the campaign with the midfielder also chipping in 3 assists to his name chronologically.

Hammarby have also moved up to sixth on the log with 37 points, gathered in 23 league matches.

They will next be taking on Ostersunds in the Matchday 24 encounter.

AACT 2026: Nana Abubakar Promises World-Class Catering, Nigerian Hospitality

Nigeria – With five days to the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT), Chairperson of the Catering and Refreshment Committee, Nana Abubakar, has assured visiting golfers, officials and guests of a memorable Nigerian experience, with local delicacies, entertainment and carefully coordinated catering arrangements planned for the continental championship.

Abubakar, who is also Treasurer of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN), said the committee was working to ensure that visitors experience the richness of Nigerian cuisine and hospitality throughout their stay in Abuja.

She explained that the arrangements would go beyond providing meals and refreshments, with guests expected to enjoy Nigerian delicacies, cocktails and entertainment as part of the activities surrounding the championship.

The committee is also making provisions for golfers during practice sessions and while competing on the course, recognising the need to keep players refreshed and comfortable despite the potentially challenging weather conditions.

Abubakar said the arrangements were designed to ensure that players can concentrate on their games while receiving the necessary catering and refreshment support throughout the competition.

Beyond the golf course, the hospitality package will begin from the moment visitors arrive in Nigeria, with welcome packages and reception arrangements planned to give participating teams and other guests a warm introduction to the country.

The initiative reflects the Local Organising Committee’s determination to make AACT 2026 more than a sporting contest, using the championship to showcase Nigerian culture, cuisine, entertainment and hospitality to visitors from across Africa.

Nigeria will host the All Africa Challenge Trophy for the third time, following the 1996 edition at Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos and the 2010 championship at the IBB International Golf & Country Club in Abuja.

The 2026 tournament is scheduled for November 2 to 7 at the IBB International Golf & Country Club, Abuja, with about 30 African countries expected to participate.

Under the slogan “Uniting Africa through the greens,” the championship will bring together women golfers from across the continent while creating opportunities for cultural exchange, tourism and stronger African relationships.

With five days remaining, the Catering and Refreshment Committee says it is preparing to serve up a distinctive Nigerian experience, combining sporting excellence with the warmth of the country’s renowned hospitality.
