Amnesty International Football, Basketball tourneys: GSS Tundu-Wada Tackles GSS Mabushi Friday

It will be the clash of titan Today’s Friday in Abuja, as three-day Amnesty International football and basketball tournament come to climax where Government Secondary School Tundu-Wada will tackle Government Secondary School Mabushi in the final.

On Thursday in the semifinal game,GSS Mabushi defeated GSS Wuse 4-0 to join the GSS Tundu-Wada who emerged winner of all the groups in the day one of the encounter.

It will be recalled that, six Government Secondary Schools which includes, GSS Kubwa, GSS Mabushi, GSS Zone 3, GSS Tundu Wada, GSS Garki and GSS Maitama started the championship put in place by Amnesty international to raise awareness about human rights and all we need to defend our human rights and to do that we need sports’ dynamism to champion the course of human rights in Nigeria.

The three day even have the theme: “Write for rights” in commemoration of international human rights day.

Speaking at the Country Director of Amnesty International Mrs Osai Ojigho said “We are using sports to send the message of solidarity to young people who do not have the opportunity to know their rights that are embedded in the constitution.

However, Amnesty with over 10million people is an international non-governmental organization with focus on human rights and over the years have been working round the clock campaigns for compliance with international laws and standards as well as mobilizing public opinion to generate pressure on where abuse takes place.

On the eve of the closing ceremony alone, Ghana clinched eight gold medals, winning the ultimate prize in women’s hockey, 200m men’s athletics event, high jump, men’s football event, and four boxing gold medals in boxing. All in one night.

Ghana also made history by becoming the first country to win god in both men’s and women’s football events at the Games.

The closing ceremony of the Games saw star performances from star acts such as Stonebwoy, Stanley Enow, Wiyaala, Innoss’B, amongst others.

As Ghana continues its upward trajectory in the realm of sports, the nation stands poised to achieve even greater milestones under the visionary leadership of President Nana Akufo-Addo and Sports minister, Mustapha Ussif.
