Basketball Players Vow to Hit the Streets Against Sunday Dare
Some Basketball Players under the umbrella of Concerned Progressive Ballers CPB, have vowed to hit the streets of Abuja next week, following the clandestine moves by Sports Minister,Mr.Sunday Dare to force Engr.Musa Kida on them as NBBF President.
Arising from a meeting held in Abuja on Friday, the players say plans by the Sports Minister to force a rejected candidate on them was unfair and immoral. They cited past experiences witnessed under Engr.Kida which they say had put the country in bad light.
Spokesman for the group,A.U Abdul says the group has rejected Engr.Kida.
“It is unfair and immoral for the Sports Minister to force an unpopular candidate on us as NBBF President, this is one man who has put Nigeria in bad light.During his reign,he brought shame and disgrace to Nigeria. He killed our leagues and also failed to pay players.Engr.Kida always claim to be using his personal money to develop basketball, and we say it is not by force. We don’t want you and your money;both foreign and domestic players have vowed to revolt against him if the Sports Minister is forcing him on us.”Abdul stated.
They advised the Sports Minister to more concern about re-engineering sports which under his watch, the sector has nosedived, citing failure to pick the FIFA World cup ticket as a good example.Moreso, that the rumoured nexus between himself and Engr.Kida is the AFA Sports deal which is being investigated by anti graft agencies. They stressed that the Minister should remember that posterity remains the best judge, and not his villa contact.
“We had thought that the appointment of Mr. Sunday Dare was a blessing to the sports sector, but unfortunately, the so called blessing has been cursed by his crave for financial gains and publicity stunts that have now destroyed the very backbone of our sports.
It is on record that he presided over the worse and most shameful Olympic outing.Sports under the present Minister is nothing to write home about, and the Nigeria’s failure to pick the FIFA World cup ticket is a testament to the fact that Sports have nosedived under his watch. The rumoured AFA deal has between the connecting rod between the minister and Engr.Kida,as we are aware that the case is being investigated by the anti graft agencies. The Minister should be made to know that posterity remains the best judge and not his contact at the villa shielding his administrative malfeasance.”The Players say.
The Nigeria Basketball Federation NBBF has engulfed in leadership crisis following the mal administration that marred the immediate board of the federation, headed by Engr.Musa Kida.

Fresh Ideas, Science Needed to Revitalise Basketball —ABA
Cyril Ogar
President/Founder, Amateur Basketball Academies, ABA, Aliyu Lucky Abubakar has called for a scientific and pragmatic approach to rediscovering the game of basketball in the North East.
The former player of many teams in Nigeria stated this on Saturday during training of coaches in Yola, Adamawa State.
Aliyu said the training is aimed to arm Coaches so they can, in turn, reach the children, especially those that ABA may not. The Deputy Comptroller in Nigeria Customs Service decried non-challant attitudes of the stakeholders in the development of basketball in the North East.
” Basketball is fading in the North East, and we at ABA will not allow it to die.”
“Adamawa was once a force in the game of basketball but had fallen behind. Our plan is to discover talent through coaching training, nurture it, and carry it from state level to the national team, and eventually, the global stage.” The basketball administrator said.
In his keynote message to the participants, which centered on the theme, “HOPE,” Harnessing opportunity, Organising for excellence, Promoting players’ development, and Empowering the next generation, Aliyu said, is far more than a drill instructors.
” Every child you see on a basketball court has a dream, and it is our job as a coach to spot it early and give it somewhere to go.” He concluded.
In his lecture titled, ” Who is a Coach”, Emmanuel Odah, the head Coach, FCT Basketball and former National Juniors team, described a coach as a committed, organised, affectionate, caring and humble.
” Commitment is consistency, and consistency is mother of progress; humility comes first because a coach who can not control himself can never control a game,” Odah insisted.
Other instructors at the training include ABA head of technical, Coach Adeka Daudu, as well as Coach Alexander Anyebe Ujoh, who spoke about the relationship between a coach and child in his care.
Coaches at the training commended ABA for its boldness to give hopes to basketball coaches all over the country. They promised that lessons learned would reshape and reset their mind on the job. They said the training will help them in understanding their role not only as an instructor but also grooming the children for a better future.
Among guests at the event include FCT Acting Director of Sports, Mr. Iyiola Ogundele and Bayelsa Veteran Basketball administrator, Coach Tony
