Beat Wydad Athlectic Club and get $40,000.00 USD each, Gov. Wike promises Rivers United stars

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike CON, GSSRS, POS Africa has urged players of Rivers United to go for victory and glory in their two CAF Champions League games against African champions Wydad Athletic Club of Casablanca this month.

United will face the Moroccans in the first leg of their second round clash at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium this weekend with a win over two legs guaranteeing the victors a place in the money-spinning group stage of the competition.

Governor Wike who was represented by the Rivers State Sports Commissioner, Barr. Chris Green stated that the people of Rivers State and Nigeria are behind the team as they look to give the country creditable representation in Africa’s premiere club competition.

“The Governor, who is the number one fan of this club, has asked me to inform you all that the people of Rivers State are solidly behind you in this national project,” Barr. Green said as he addressed players, coaches and officials of the club ahead of Sunday’s huge clash.

“I also want to let you know that the Governor has graciously approved the sum of $20,000.00 for each player for winning last season’s Nigeria Professional League title.

“The Governor has also announced that if you qualify for the group stages of the Champions League, you will receive $40,000.00 each.

“So go out there and compete with dignity, honour and the traditional Rivers spirit to put smiles on the faces of Rivers people and indeed all Nigerians,” he concluded.

In his response, club captain, Festus Austine thanked the Governor and Commissioner while adding that the players will strive to justify the confidence reposed in them by Gov. Wike and the people of Rivers State.

NVBF President, Engr Nimrod Urges Families to Embrace Healthy Living at HOBA Novelty Sports

President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Engineer Musa Nimrod, has called on Nigerian families to adopt healthy living habits through regular participation in sporting and fitness activities.

Nimrod made the call on Sunday during the third edition of the Hoba Development Association, Abuja Chapter, novelty sports event held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

He noted that physical activities such as sports are vital to fostering family bonds, community interaction, and overall well-being.

“The rate of health-related incidents such as slumping is increasing, but regular exercise helps improve the health of both parents and children,” he said. “Events like this bring families together, allowing parents and children to interact and know each other better.”

Also speaking, the stand-in Chairman of the Hoba Community, Barrister Nathan Naandeti, highlighted the significance of the annual novelty games, describing them as a unifying platform for members of the community.

“It’s something we do every year to promote unity, togetherness, and fitness among our people. Sports is part of who we are,” he stated.

Men, women, and children from the Hoba community participated in various sporting activities, including volleyball, badminton, football, and aerobics—all aimed at encouraging relaxation, fitness, and bonding among families.
